...The battle is not always won by the most brave and equipped person to serve. Sometimes it can be assisted by an unlikely source. For bravery comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. I share with you a story of a young man determined to contribute to their undertaking no matter the circumstances. My micro fiction utilized the prompt "over the mountain" and is told in exactly 100 words as developed by @felt.buzz for the ZAPFIC100 format.

Below is my story:
The soldier of no consequence leaned forward. He stared for several moments down the regiment's line. Returning upright, he stood proud with shield in one hand, helmet in the other, and quiver on his back.
The smallest recruit, Hobert ignored the jeers and accepted his end position.
Knowing Hobert's true mission, the Commander nodded in his direction. Unable to scurry over the mountain, Hobert fell back.
Within moments, the emerald forest, sprayed with crimson, carried whiffs and sounds of burning trees and wounded.bodies.
Hobert opened the mountain's secret passageway. Additional soldiers emerged, ensuring victory at the Battle of Deluge Forest.
