A leader needs to be versatile and firm. Versatility implies being able to compromise ideas and alternatives, firmness implies being able to access choices, weigh alternatives, see ahead and determine what suits and what does not fit.
Ideas are good, but the problem with ideas is that they are not all good, some are not correct at the time, some have the potential to fix an immediate problem while generating many others in the long run.
Typically, the human eye has a restricted field of vision, so you have to see beyond that field as a leader.
