19 October 2024 @mariannewest's Writing prompt Day 2530: the undead bride

She laughs most loudly at every joke he cracks, calls him at inappropriate hours, claiming her best friend’s line was unreachable, and spoke to him for hours after a few minutes of exchanging pleasantries with Lucy.

Lucy pondered on the relationship her best friend wields with her fiancé; though it burdened her, her friend had been there for her through for half of her life; they had each other like two seeds in a pod. Though she’s an overthinker, she decides to trust Matilda.

Lucy had no sister, nor did Matilda; sticking together made them create a bond more than some sisters.

Matilda was like her therapist; she unloads her mind to her without feeling any form of judgement; Matilda knows and loves to cook; she oversees kitchen duties while Lucy cleans up, which made her feel more comfortable staying in her place than her parents; there she’s responsible for everything, including cooking, as all her siblings are male and swore never to help. She loaths her life there.

Asides cooking and sharing a lot more together, Lucy constantly pulls her best friend to watch movies as she detests them, saying it’s not a better way to unwind her stress; she rather sleeps or surfs the internet. Matilda also did help Lucy go through her weight session, coaching her physically and emotionally with words of encouragement. They did have a little hangout when they were too tired to cook.

But the recent development with her fiancé made her reexamine her friendship; she held on to those good memories and forges ahead.

After months of dating, he decides to walk her down the aisle. The morning of her wedding arrived, and she was most happy. The guest for her makeover, clothes, and photography all arrived on her day. She felt uneasy as a consequence of being claustrophobic and hated gathering; she felt bloated and a little bit out of shape. She begged her friend to prepare her weight loss portion, which she did, though she swapped it for something that would make her pass out.

Few meters away from the church, Lucy collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where she was in a coma.

Matilda tries to win her fiancé over, saying mean things about her friend; he refuses, saying his bride will come back for him.

Matilda confesses her act of betrayal. You paid so much attention to me I mistook it for love. That's why I did it. His heart cried out in disappointment. I just took her as my fiancee sister, nothing more.

The love he had was completely refilled with hate, he asked she leaves town before he does something awful to her.

He sits by Lucy's bedside praying for her return.
