THE FIRST TIME I GOT LOST

There was this one time I first got lost. Like, I really got lost in Aba. Okay, not Aba, 'cause saying 'Aba' makes it sound so big.

Aba is one of the biggest City in the eastern part of Nigeria and also the commercial hub of the East that host both local and international traders.

I got lost some streets away from mine. And it was all because of my aeroplane that I was building. This was my very first ever airplane that I built by myself! I had a partner, though, and she was building her own airplane beside mine.

I was not allowed to go more than ten feet away from my house, alone, because I was just one tiny human being in Nursery something at Eagle Trend Academy. The day I wanted to build my airplane, however, I went farther than I've ever gone away from my house, to one big tree that looked scary and haunted. The tree has big and long branches, but I could still see my house in sight.

It was very much evening, and it was under that big tree that we built two well-working airplanes, I and my partner, using two single dry leaves among the many dry leaves scattered around the tree. She took one leaf and I took the other leaf. We used our expert hands to divide the leaves to the perfect design so it would work, and then I ran back to my mother's shop and brought broomstick and then for the final touch we stuck our broomsticks into the middle of the leaves and our fine airplanes were ready to fly! And that was exactly how I turned under that evening sky with full grin on my face over my perfect airplane that I was holding in my hand and started running with it, with my partner running with hers too beside me. Our planes were flying! (Airplane leaves, Leaf airplanes, Leaf plane wings. Whatever.) The wind was doing its job rotating it exactly how it should be rotating fast while we did the job of running, and because of my small size, sneaking past the house in my run was easy. All I had to do was bend my head and Ta-da! I was past the house! And then after that, RUNNING ALL THE WAY!

Did I finally stop running with the airplane? Yes. How? I don't know. I just suddenly stopped after letting the wind carry me and my airplane, and when I looked around, that was when fear came. I was lost! I mean, I knew the path I was in and the houses were familiar but the roads were not very familiar with my head then. I knew for sure that it was the road we usually follow to my school but I didn't know the way around all by myself.

My airplane dropped from the high height in my hand and crashed with a loud booming sound with fire, along with my broomstick holding it and my partner was already walking straight to her house because her house was just on that road.

Define wickedness again, cause this is pure wickedness I almost launched into cry because it was well into the evening and they must have noticed my absence at home, and I didn't know which road to follow to go back.

But then to end the story, Luckily, a knight appeared in shining armour from one of the paths in the person of Mama Eunice, a street neighbour who was wicked enough to drag my ear and talk all the way back. Her mouth was running like typewriter and she kept asking what I was doing running to that point. She fell into the Gossip People Association of my street. Women leader. Sure thing she was going to tell my mom as soon as we landed in our shop.

I can't remember what happened afterwards, but I sure know that my perfect airplane ended up abandoned and crashed on the way. I accept condolences on that. Child memories can't be forgotten.
