Yesterday I received a kilo of asparagus which made me wonder if they're healthy, and what do they contain. To my surprise, I found out asparagus is actually called "the queen of spring" in my country, due to its extremely low carbohydrate levels, and incredible riches in all essential minerals, amino acids, and vitamins. A few days ago I finished publishing articles regarding the immune system, and its requirements for the proper function. Now, we know how important zinc is. Generally, zinc cannot be found in fruits, and vegetables, aside from a few exceptions, such as asparagus. Aside from that, there is another super important mineral that cannot be stored in our bodies and is really hard to find. That's potassium. Asparagus has both!
Spring is the time to harvest asparagus, but they're really hard to find, which correlates with the high price they hold. So, If you're able to find and harvest them, do it. Your health will be thankful!
Why is asparagus a great choice for keto diets and generally everybody who wants to lose weight? 'cause it offers only 20 kcal per 100 grams and only 2.6 grams of carbohydrates of which 2.1 is fiber, therefore, only a half of gram of carbohydrates per 100 grams of asparagus! Incredible!
Asparagus also offers 1.7 grams of protein and approximately a gram of Omega 3!
But here is the key part: asparagus contains zinc, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron, folate, and copper! She is rich in vitamin A, B2, B6, C, and K (the only essential vitamin she lacks is D).
The story doesn't end here! She is also rich in antioxidants, and "asparagine" (amino acid) that LOWERS insulin. Maintaining levels of insulin low is a MUST for everyone who wants to lose weight! In fact, high insulin is a common occurrence among patients who suffer from Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and cancer!
Insulin is spiked mostly by carbohydrates and sugar.
Harvard University School of Public Health proved that asparagus is effective against high insulin.
Cooking kills of vegetable's enzymes, so, if you want to consume asparagus and yet intake all the heavenly nutrients she offers, cut it on small pieces, and fry for a SHORT time on COCONUT OIL. Preferably, add a few cooked eggs, a little bit of chicken or turkey meat, and you'll make a meal that fits every warrior's menu! I tried it yesterday and got impressed by how simple, delicious and healthy it was! In my opinion, this was by far the best meal I ever broke my fast with! 😁
