2 December 2025, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2939: a session musician

in Freewriters14 days ago

Kunle “Strings” Adeyemi was the force behind countless Lagos hits, every cast had his name in it, but buried deep amongst those acknowledged but no one ever looked that deep, he was a session musician whose face nobody recognized but whose guitar made songs that came to life. One afternoon, he was called in to help an anxious upcoming artist named BreezeKid. The beat was flat, missing something only Kunle could hear. With a calm breath, he added a warm, dawn-like guitar sound that instantly transformed the track. The room fell silent, stunned, and BreezeKid whispered, “You just gave the song a soul.” Kunle smiled politely, packed his old guitar, and left like he always did unseen, uncelebrated. Two weeks later, his phone exploded with messages. BreezeKid’s song had gone viral, and TikTok loops of Kunle’s genius moment were everywhere dance videos, edits, even memes praising “the unknown guitarist who saved the track.” For the first time, Kunle paused and looked at his reflection, realizing that even without fame, his sound had found its way into the world. And quietly, without stepping into the spotlight, he felt something he hadn’t felt in a long time seen.
