Jim wouldn't have said that, of course. He was younger and cooler than his dad. But, looking back, he was ashamed to remember he did think it.
They were young and definitely wore clothes that didn't mark them out as millionaires, with their second best selling album riding high in the charts. In Jim's world most people who had money liked to show they had money. They wore expensive suits, wore Rolex watches and drove expensive cars. Now, admittedly, Kipper - the lead singer it turns out - did turn up in a vintage old car. It was probably worth a few notes, but it wasn't your classic "rich guy car".
Jim thought these guys were time wasters.
He's had a few of them. People who just wanted to look around a house to waste a few hours, or because a famous person used to live there, or even there was an influencer who lived in the neighbourhood and they might get lucky and bump into them.
