He checks the readings again. The creature contained in the cage, a strange shimmering thing that seems to have mass but almost no substance, looks back at him and for a moment Brad is convinced it is mimicking him.
It can't be, he thinks. How can a creature that is not a carbon-based lifeform exist here? In fact, it seems to be thriving.
As he watches (almost as if the creature can read its thoughts), it doubles in size.
Brad picks up the phone. It is time to call his mentor. Professor Noitall will be able to double-check his notes and findings and tell him where he has gone wrong.
The phone isn't working.
The creature in the cage shimmers again, and for a moment Brad sees a telephone, then a question mark, and then the creature disappears.
Brad feels a tickling in his ear, and he is convinced the creature has used the telephone to escape, somehow.
