Here we call sodas 'minerals' and to have a pop at someone is to criticise or mock them.

I guess it's a good thing I don't drink soda, or I would be lost in most places.
Minerals?! I don't see how soda could possibly be called minerals.

Apparently, the original sodas were made with mineral water and sold in pharmacies.
