"If I Had More Money All My Problems Would Go Away"

How many times have you thought that if you had more money, all your problems would disappear?Trust me, you're not alone.

Morgan Housel, the author of The Psychology of Money, shared a story about actor Will Smith. Smith once said that when he was poor and depressed, he could tell himself, "If only I had more money, all my problems would go away." But when he became rich and was still depressed, that narrative no longer worked. Despite having more money than he could ever spend, the depression remained. He realized that he could no longer say, "If I had more money, I’d be happier," because he already had it—and yet, happiness still eluded him.

It highlights a powerful shift: when he was poor and depressed, there was hope that money would solve everything. But after becoming rich, and still facing the same emotional struggles, that hope was gone.

Jim Carrey once famously said, “I wish everyone could get rich and famous so they could see it’s not the answer to anything.” This rings true for many.

We often think money will solve all our problems. While it can certainly fix some, it can also create new ones. My advice is to focus on identifying the root of your problems—because in many cases, money isn't the solution.

The reason I'm sharing this is because I've experienced both sides. I've had periods where I was temporarily rich but unhappy, and other times when I was living modestly but felt content. Oddly enough, the latter felt far more fulfilling. It’s easy to have money but still feel unfulfilled due to a lack of purpose, meaningful connections, or other deeper issues.

Always remember: if you have an ungrateful heart, no amount of money will ever be enough. The more you get, the more you'll crave, and you’ll never feel satisfied. Be grateful for what you have, work towards financial freedom, but first, find contentment in your current situation.

Some problems may go away, but inner problems will amplify if you are not ready to handle that much amount.

Exactly. That's exactly what happens.

This is such a powerful message and one that really resonates. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking more money will solve all our problems, but as you pointed out with Will Smith’s and Jim Carrey’s experiences, it doesn’t always bring happiness or fulfillment. I love your advice about focusing on the root of the problems rather than expecting money to be the solution. Gratitude and finding contentment in the present moment are key to lasting happiness, and it’s something we often overlook. Thanks for sharing this insight—it’s a great reminder to focus on what truly matters!

This comment really made my day, and before I say anything I have to thank you for taking the time to write this comment, it really means a lot to me.
I'm happy you get it, because most people don't! I'll give you an example from a personal experience: When my salary was multiplied by 7x suddenly due to working with an American client directly without an outsourcing company, the money I made didn't give me half the satisfaction I got when I started my bodybuilding process and saw results.
I can say that the satisfaction I got out of being in shape exceeds the satisfaction I got out of making a lot of money (respectively) a million times.
When I made a lot of money and was addicted to drugs I wasn't satisfied at all, but when the company was shut down and I had no source of income but gave up drugs and recovered I was far more happier.
Life isn't about the money, it's about your health and well-being, your mindset, your friends and family and the healthy relationships you have, you feeling valued and skilled, a lot more that outweigh money.
You reading my post and writing this comment is an honor and a privilege and it will make me much more encouraged to write better & more, because I was about to feel only bots review my posts 😄😂
