I had a good job at a reputable company, but a small disagreement led me to resign. Although management encouraged me to reconsider, I felt it was the right moment to move forward. After leaving, I spent 15 days at home before joining a startup in the same industry, earning a modest 2,000 EGP.
The startup, though promising, was still developing its operations—it had been around for only 11 years. My first assignment was managing a single shipment, and it quickly became apparent that they urgently needed logistical expertise. Logistics is a key area, and I was determined to prove myself. However, I ran into challenges, particularly with their lack of refrigeration facilities for specific products.
This situation pushed me to think on my feet and come up with innovative solutions. Despite the low salary and difficult circumstances, I stayed quiet, focusing on building my skills. It wasn’t the ideal job, but I didn’t have other opportunities at the time, so I committed to the role.
For 10 months, I tried unsuccessfully to find a better position. At one point, I considered borrowing money to support myself, but my father advised me to trust in God and avoid debt.
Eventually, the company announced layoffs, and I was offered a severance package of 20,000 EGP. I took it as a sign to start anew. Using this opportunity, I decided to pursue a fresh path.
Before the holiday season, I applied for a position as a logistics manager at another company. A friend helped connect me with someone there, and after over a month without work, I landed the job. Within five days of joining, I realized how much more I needed to learn.
This journey has been a mix of challenges and valuable lessons. While my first salary was only 2,000 EGP, I’ve never regretted the experience. It laid the foundation for growth and opened doors to opportunities I couldn’t have imagined at the time.
