Hey Freewriters.
On Mondays the community here hosts a short fiction competition. You have to write a short story on the topic given in 240 characters or less. This week, the first week of 2022, the topic is “a new beginning”.
I wrote this to tell a story about the reality that many people experience of being trapped in their own mind for most of their waking hours. When we were children we could play in nature and leave behind the worries and cares of life. There is no reason not to start fresh with every breath as we explore our wonderful world. Enjoy!
a new beginning
it used to be that
by stopping the car we could find our daydream again
between the undergrowth.
next to the iron gates.
wooden and closed
but not locked.
there is no magical key.
life itself is not a harsh judge.
Begin to breath again, beloved.
