Human beings like to think they're masters of this planet however I believe the planet is its own master and even it doesn't have full control over what's going on sometimes. I guess that's what nature is all about though, things just happen naturally one way or another and the lack of control is the constant; one things causes something else to occur and the cycle, called evolution, rolls out.
Evolution is an amazing thing and over time has caused some interesting plants and animals to come into being on this planet, humans included - take a look around you and you'll see some of them - although realistically everything on planet Earth is evolving all the time no matter how slow and the planet itself does as well.
There's loads of weird creatures on planet Earth and despite humans believing we are in control some of what nature has brought into being is a total mystery to us and the planet's oceans are one of those places where those mysteries abound.
A while back I was at an aquarium full of undersea creatures and found it fascinating.
There's an entire world down there that most of us will never get to see or understand and so much that human scientists and marine biologists simply have no clue about. I think it's amazing and can only imagine how excited a marine biologist may get when they discover something new or gain understanding of something that had previously perplexed them.
Something that always amazes me is how weird undersea creatures can be and I often wonder why they've evolved as they have; nature always has a reason I suppose and determining what it is can be the big challenge. I watch a lot of documentaries and am often mind-blown by what I learn and as I wondered around the aquarium I could, in some small way, imagine what it might be like for those exploring the mysteries of the planet's oceans.
I've done a fair amount of snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, in Australia as I used to live right there and can say with certainty that what one sees beneath the surface is incredible, a little scary at times, and somewhat weird. It's incredible though and the more I see the more I want to see. It's not for everyone I guess, diving and snorkeling, but the cool thing is we can see some of those wondrous things in aquariums from time to time.
This post shows a few of the weird creatures found under the sea including a moray eel which looks like an angry bastard, hermit crab and lobsters which are some weird-ass looking things for sure! There's also an image of a crown of thorns starfish, a very invasive creature that feeds on coral, sponges and other stuff and which causes untold damage to the Great Barrier Reef.

For some reason, as I was growing up, I thought I might one day be a marine biologist. I don't know all why, but then ... I never was.
I sometimes think we are like fleas to the earth, like fleas on a dog. We cannot survive without what the earth provides.... and yet we are destroying it left and right. We are sad, greedy creatures as a whole. I'm thinking climate change is happening because Mother Earth is try to scratch some of us off !! LOL
I love programs about the sea and all the different things that are in it. You caught some very nice photos. I enjoyed looking at them.
It would be a pretty interesting profession, not all diving and boating of course, but still pretty interesting for sure.
I agree with your second paragraph and it's very sad considering our overuse of the planet and its resources could be reasonably easily mitigated by some sensible action, less consumerism and other such behavioural factors...but humans seem incapable of that on a scale large enough to arrest the decline. Fleas on a dog for sure.

I love snorkeling, I only dived (is that correct?) twice at the Great Barrier Reef and it was a once of a lifetime experience, haven't done it since but still remember it. However, I've been snorkeling many times e.g. whenever we are on Bonaire and one day one of those angry looking bastards, a golden moray eel, surprised me. Well, I was surprised, he was just hanging out, lurking out of his coral hole. But, gosh, did I quickly put some distance between us. And then kept watching it. Pretty amazing.

I'm glad you've got under water on the Great Barrier Reef, it's such an incredible location and really it's a once in a lifetime thing...or twice for you...and multiple for me...but you get what I mean.

What a nice walk along the bottom of the sea, some of the photos look like they were taken in an extraterrestrial world. About the Earth, I think it is self-governing, I don't know if you know the Gaia theory, there is a great book on the subject called "symbiotic planet" by Lynn Margulis. The only thing that does not convince me about this theory is that the Earth has not yet expelled humanity from the planet. Perhaps it is only a matter of time.

I think it's a matter of time before humanity is dealt with as the planet cannot sustain us...or more to the point we cannot live harmoniously with it. We take and take and there's only so much to give. We're our own enemy in that regard.
One thing that strikes home with me is that idea of being a master, having total control over your life and situations. This post reminds me of a certain period in my life where I had had issues letting go, and coming to terms with the fact that I don't have control over everything that happens in my life.
Same as nature and many of us. We mostly don't have absolute control over all things. And surprisingly it was relaxing to let go, it took a whole lot of pressure away from me, and made me light. I could easily focus on what was important.
To the meat of this piece, absolutely! Yeah, absolutely! The world under the surface is so fascinating I have not gone down before, but I imagine and with the help of social media and posts like yours I get a feel of what the world would look like. There are a lot of discoveries and so many that have overturned long standing principles is biology and biochemistry,
I am excited about nature, and I am glad you care to share such wonders here.👌
There's so much we do not know about the oceans but we're learning slowly. The sad thing is we're mistreating them and that's not going to go well for the planet or humans.

And yes it is true that human beings think they are the owners of nature but nature doesn't need or have an owner and we should respect it.
I hope you get to go down there someday, there's much to see and mostly all wondrous. Having said that, the way humans are destroyijg the environment there might not be a lot left down there in years to come...that's not too far off either.

As you mention, we often feel that we humans dominate the planet, but the reality is that nature is the true master and continues to evolve at its own pace. Those marine organisms you have photographed are truly amazing. The moray fish with that stern expression, the hermit crabs with their portable homes and the starfish full of spines are perfect examples of nature's limitless creativity. Incredible post! ❤️
Sea creatures can be as weird as they are fascinating I think and we still have a lot to learn about them. I wonder if we will have the time to do so or if we'll destroy the oceans first?
Wow, those are so me awesome shots! I have always enjoyed aquariums. I could just sit and watch the creatures float around all day. I have never been snorkeling, but I wouldn't be opposed to it if the opportunity ever arose. The world is definitely an amazing place!
We have several big aquariums here and they're all pretty good, well presented and informative. But like you say, sometimes it's nice just to sit and watch the creatures swimming around and the colours and all. Quite relaxing.

There's a lot of nice places around the world to snorkel and dive and I'm fortunate to have one of the best, The Great Barrier Reef, nearby. I hope you get to do some eventually, it's pretty incredible.
I watched a good documentary a couple of years ago, about the planting of corals in order to fill the part of the reef that was damaged. I'm just not sure if it was damaged by us or as you stated, other animal species...
Very serious project, I really have to look at the status, whether it was successfully implemented...
Humans influence the oceans in many ways (negatively) and on the Great Barrier Reef container and bulk cargo ships emptying bilge water from all over the world has brought invasive species which is killing the reef. There's efforts to mitigate it but I'm not sure enough is being done. Time will tell.
We are slowly killing this planet of ours, and later, when it is too late, we will say: "Oh, we didn't want to, we didn't know..."
But then it will be too late...
It's already too late I think. The residual effects just haven't happened yet. Humanity are in for a surprise and as you say, will make excuses when it happens...or simply won't be around to make excuses.
For some reason this made me think about Lord of the Rings. Everyone believed that ring has only one master -Sauron. But for me it always seemed that ring is its own master and Sauron is just another slave of the ring. A bit like a much more powerful Gollum.
Indeed, Sauron was subjected to the power of the ring, beholden to it, as was Gollum and others also I guess...it was pure power and sought to undermine those (weak minded ones) who possessed it...or were possesyby it I should say.
Let's say butterfly effect, I believe it too. Also, I think that nature runs dialectically.
Nature does its own thing and the only disruption (for a time) is human intervention. It'll win out eventually though, when humans are no longer an influence.

These are wonderful photos. I've gone snorkeling a couple of times in Palawan, and it was a really nice experience. The corals were very close to us, and we had a close view of all the different colorful fish.
It's amazing what's down there right? The colours and other marine life; pretty incredible really.

There's more beyond! Seeing your blog makes me wonder how it is beneath the sea. I never had snorkeling or diving for I'm afraid of the water and its underwater creatures. This make sense, a lot of underwater creatures that I never taught existing. Sometimes it has a weird appearance and might be dangerous as well. Let's be careful at all times.
Being careful is a good thing mostly, but there's often a right time to push limits because it's beyond those limits where amazing things can be found.

You can never see the boundaries of nature. If you look under the water, you will see such creatures that you will wonder how these creatures can sustain their existence. There are some creatures in your post that even science doesn't have an answer for now. Then it seems that the divine power driving all these beings is real. Which runs the pulse of the whole world along with us.. @galenkp
One of the things humans are really good at is destroying nature and it's happening at an alarming rate. It's irresponsible and will have implications of course, the question is when.
