It's not often I look at statistics on Hive because it's (generally) meaningless to me and won't affect what I do here, plus I don't have time to waste...although I did the other day.
I am all about setting goals in life but with Hive the only goal I had was to have fun, enjoy what I do here, and I have hit that goal year after year since June 13th 2017 when I first started on the blockchain (meaning the one that Hive split off from) and I'm still here doing that. Sure, it's a different place now than it was then, I don't actually find it as enjoyable if I'm totally honest, but I stick around because there's some people I have fun with and writing from time to time is a good distraction from what's going on in my life.
Anyway, I see many people setting financial goals on Hive and I think that's not altogether a bad thing, but I also see people forget to set other goals like engagement, quality of their posting, improvement of their grammar, punctuation and writing style, improving image quality, relationship building/nurturing and other things...I get the feeling many approach it like a job and that leaves me feeling that many posts are bland, soulless, uninspiring, boring and passionless. I've always said that a persons main goal here should be to post and engage with passion, personality and effort - I respond to that with my upvote button and through engagement - and without it a person won't do as well.
For me the most important statistic to measure is the level of passion, personality and effort I put into what I do here and I know that with the right balance the financial statistics will take care of themselves.
I'm not going to go into my statistics as no one other than me probably cares but what I will say is that they move in the right direction, upwards I mean, and that's due to the fact I don't see this as a job, it's a hobby and interest, and that means I put more personality and passion in, effort too of course. Over the years I've tried to inspire others to do the same and some have done so (and get my votes and engagement because of it) and other have ignored me (and they don't get my votes and engagement) and it's each person's prerogative to do as they wish.
Effective goalsetting is one of the most important aspects of life for those who would like to achieve their desired results but goals without a plan attached are simply dreams and they won't carry a person forward towards the results they would like.
Setting the goal of having a certain amount of Hive powered up by the end of the year will mean nothing if the person doesn't take the steps to earn it and that comes through posting well, engagement (and building relationships) and, of course, powering up (staking) not taking it all out of Hive; I believe, once the goal is set and the plan determined the next ingredient is action and to make that action effective one needs to apply passion, personality and effort.
What do you reckon? Am I talking shit or am I on the right track? I mean, my account has grown exponentially so I guess I've done something right, but you may disagree and have a different way to do it. Feel free to expose your thoughts and yourself in the comments if you like.

In Hive, many people, especially on this side of the world, start off in the wrong way; they seek curation, big votes, win and increase their influence. What we should really focus on is what you mentioned: improving the content we bring to Hive is the main goal, and everything else will follow.

A bit late, but a hurricane and another power outage have made normal life impossible. You have no idea how glad I was to read your words; our relationship means so much to me because I learn something new from our interactions every day, and I value that greatly
Smart people learn something new every day...others who do not...well, not so smart. I think we should never stop learning and those lessons can come from so many different places.

HP like any money doesn't grow on trees. So the only options to get it is either to earn by posting/ commenting or buy it.
I was earning more when I was making template splinterlands battle posts but it was not fun. Now when I no longer make those posts I earn considerably less but I have more fun posting. I would like to have much more Hive/HBD. But I can't afford to buy as much as I would like so I have to use a mixed approuch for best results- buying some and earning some as well. Not long ago it seemed that I will fail my 10k HP goal but after a few more suscesfull posts that goal seems feasible once again.
I think it's important to post and comment well and to comment with relevance to each post rather than genetically because that's what helps build relationships and it's relationships that build accounts. Keep up the good work.

There are a lot of newbies that come on Hive to say they want to 'work' here. Granted English isn't their first language and their use of words may be limited, but it's their mentality that's an issue, in how they perceive Hive.
Yep, that's an issue. Talking about "improving their writing" then using AI makes me want to vomit...all over them. I'll never understand why Peakd added AI options to their interface, promotes the nutbaggery.
The problem is not with AI itself. I think it has it's place in society which extends beyond writing and it's not going away. The problem is how people use it, which is not always with the best intent.
Same with guns. They're not the problem. The problem is those crackheads who use it to kill little children and innocent people.
Or the democratic system. If everyone, the candidates and voters, were mature enough it's a great system to run a country. That over the bloody commie any day.
Sadly as society evolves there are things that will be abused by a small group of people. But we can't remove those things otherwise we might as well go back living in a cave.

Other than business letters in perfect legalese, until I joined the chan that shall not be mentioned I hadn't written a single word since leaving college. Nor did I think I even could. I don't have any financial goals here, I just find the engagement good fun and I have learned a thing or two.

I think you have made a way, a very successful plan and you are right, and I liked it very much and I like to be inspired by your work. Without that passion nothing is possible, without effort less, and without constancy.... well, nothing is achieved.
I have set small goals this year and I have overcome them one by one, I have one goal left before the end of the year, I set myself a plan and I will achieve it!!!!

Being a stats freak, I look at the numbers mainly to satisfy my OCD about numbers. Personally, I don't set any targets because there is no need to stress myself over a hobby, and curation is just something that I have 0% control over.
It's sometimes good to look at the numbers as it confirms things are going in the right direction, or not, but I don't think obsessing over them helps much.
I have some loose goals, but I am honestly going to be here doing what I am doing either way, so I don't try to let them guide what I do too much. I'm often impressed with some of my writing at times. I find it quite clever and humorous if not a little dry on the humor side, but I don't think people get it the way I do sometimes. Usually if I start feeling like it is more of a job than a hobby I take a break for a little bit to refresh and refocus.
It's interesting to learn what people think of one's writing in comparison to what a person thinks of it themselves; perception is an interesting thing I guess. I guess it pays not to take things to seriously though, either way.
Yeah, for sure. People have told me they think I do a good job here, but I think it might have something to do with my account being bigger than their and their nose being brown! :)

I also see hive as a hobby but one that leaves you with rewards, that gives satisfaction.
It is sad then that you no longer see hive as you used to, although there are always posts that surprise us and make us see everything differently.
Time changes most things I guess and it's certainly changed Hive, some for the better and some change worse.
