Cryptic - Splinterlands Art Contest Week 376!

Hello friends and the Splinterlands, Alien Art, and Hive community! I hope you are having an excellent day. I didn’t want to let this week go by without participating in the Splinterlands weekly contest, so I got to work and started drawing something to share. As always, I encourage you to join this wonderful initiative where all kinds of art are shared: Splinterlands Art Contest Week 376.

The protagonist of our fan art today will be Cryptic, a being whose original design imposes with much mystery and even a touch of terror, with its bony hands and pointed hood. Without a doubt, this creature is very memorable. I hope you enjoy this fan art. Let’s start drawing now!

¡Hola amigos y comunidad de Splinterlands, Alien Art y todo Hive! Espero que estén teniendo un excelente día. No quería dejar pasar mi semana sin participar en el concurso semanal de Splinterlands, por eso me puse manos a la obra y comencé a dibujar algo para compartir. Como siempre, los animo a participar en esta excelente iniciativa donde se comparte todo tipo de arte: Splinterlands Art Contest Week 376.
El protagonista de nuestro fan art de hoy será Cryptic, este ser que en su diseño original impone con mucho misterio y hasta algo de terror, con sus huesudas manos y su capucha puntiaguda. Sin dudas, esta criatura es muy memorable. Espero que les guste este fan art. ¡Comenzamos a dibujar ya!

For my drawing, I chose a style that mixes between comic and cartoon, exaggerating Cryptic’s facial features—especially his fearsome smile full of teeth that resemble the jaws of a shark, his evil gaze, and his bony, elongated hands ending in long nails reminiscent of a bird of prey. I kept characteristic elements of his outfit such as the colors, the golden ornaments, and the pointed corners of the cape. In addition, like every good dark sorcerer, he will be showing all his power. To create this fan art I used Photoshop and tried to limit the use to a reduced color palette.

Para mi dibujo me decanté por un estilo que mezcla entre lo cómic y cartoon, exagerando los rasgos faciales de Cryptic, sobre todo su temible sonrisa llena de dientes que recuerdan las fauces de un tiburón, su mirada de maldad, y sus manos huesudas y alargadas terminadas en largas uñas que recuerdan un ave de rapiña. Mantuve elementos característicos de su atuendo como los colores, los adornos dorados y las esquinas puntiagudas de la capa. Además, como todo buen hechicero oscuro, estará mostrando todo su poder. Para realizar este fan art utilicé Photoshop y traté de limitar el uso a una paleta de colores reducida.

Cryptic is a card in the game that slows down the actions of the enemy team. It is a highly valued card, an invoker that every good player wants to have, and as an invoker it offers devastating effects in competition. Without a doubt, it is one of the best Legendary creatures and one of those with the most sinister design in the entire game.

Cryptic es una carta del juego que ralentiza las acciones del equipo enemigo. Es una carta muy apreciada, un invocador que todo buen jugador quiere tener, y como invocador ofrece efectos devastadores en la competencia. Sin dudas, es de las mejores criaturas Legendarias y de las que tienen el diseño más tenebroso en todo el juego.

I started my fan art by sketching a simple draft of what I wanted, using a light color so I could later create the line art over it. I didn’t exaggerate much; I simply transferred the character design from the game into a cartoon style, respecting it as much as possible but with more exaggerated features and more precise lines.

Comencé mi fan art planteando un boceto simple de lo que quería, utilizando un color claro para poder crear el line art después sobre este. No exageré mucho; simplemente traspasé al estilo cartoon el diseño del personaje del juego, respetándolo al máximo pero con rasgos más exagerados y líneas más precisas.

I made a first line art using one of the brushes from my custom pack. This initial line art was simply to place the elements; later I will hide the sketch layer and refine the details of the line art. As you can see, I am using thicker and rougher lines than I normally use, in order to emulate that drawing style.

Hice un primer line art usando uno de los pinceles de mi pack personalizado. Este primer line art fue simplemente para ubicar los elementos; posteriormente ocultaré la capa de boceto y refinaré los detalles del line art. Como ven, estoy usando líneas más gruesas y toscas que las que normalmente uso para lograr emular ese estilo de dibujo.

This is how my final line art turned out. As you can see, I increased the areas of total darkness and enlarged the line thickness in the zones of greater occlusion to achieve those depth contrasts so common in comics. I also refined some details and fixed some clashes between lines.

Así quedó mi line art final. Como ven, aumenté las zonas de total oscuridad y agrandé el grosor lineal en las zonas de mayor oclusión para lograr esos contrastes de profundidad tan comunes en el cómic. También afiné algunos detalles y corregí algunos choques entre líneas.

With my line art finished, I’ll begin the coloring process of my drawing—starting with the purple layer. Then I’ll add details with lights and shadows to create volume and reduce that flat feeling in the drawing.

Con mi lineart terminado, comenzaré el proceso de coloreado de mi dibujo, empezando por la capa morada. Después agregaré detalles con luces y sombras para generar volúmenes y quitar un poco esa sensación de dibujo completamente plano.

The hood of Cryptic is done! I really liked how it turned out, but I still need to color his hand, face, and some details like the energy he’s holding in his hand.

¡Listo! Así quedó la capucha del Cryptic. Me gustó mucho cómo quedó, pero aún faltan por colorear su mano, rostro y algunos detalles como la energía que sostiene en su mano.

Final details on the eyes, eyebrows, nails, and a bit more lighting are a must...

Detalles finales en ojos, cejas, uñas, y un poco más de iluminación no pueden faltar...
