Is TRUE democracy allowing people who don't know what they want, who live by advertising-induced instincts, who are uninterested in hearing about anything they don't already LIKE or that doesn't give them immediate satisfaction, allowing THEM (US?) to decide, en masse, to walk the entire population of the planet into the fire, as long as "The Majority" believes that THEY have made the decision for all of us to fry together???

The WILL of the PEOPLE?

Do we "SAVE" folks who don't WANT to be saved??? Or do we turn up the boombox and breakdance in our little cave, by ourselves, while the rest of the world sizzles...or drowns...or sizzles and THEN drowns???

I don't know.

My purview is limited. (Time, Economics, Gravity...all deadly enemies.)

I feel good about it---although there is a pretty good chance that, in the cosmic sense---on a geological scale---neither this particular drawing nor ANY of my works will leave much of a blip on the universe.

I'm kinda fine with that---in a cosmic sense. When I'm drawing or writing or making an audio recording, I'm certainly concerned about the FUTURE of the work. Will it turn out cool (or at least FUNNY?) Will my family or friends or online compatriots enjoy it? Will it outlive me or be fizzled away in a fire or hard drive crash? Will I make any MONEY off this one? (Finally???) (Yes, even the HOLIEST of Holy Fools has to eat and pay rent and buy records and comics, so marketability, perhaps sadly, IS a consideration... I'm just being honest here to build up your trust, so that when I lie to you LATER about something even MORE important, you'll be more likely to believe me! Ha!)

BUT (and this is the point that I'm trying to SNEAK UP ON) there is also a portion of my personae that is focused---drawn like iron shavings to a high powered magnet---on the ACT of creating. Is SET LOOSE from the moorings of time and latched almost completely on THE IMMEDIATE, THE MOMENTARY, THE NOW!

For this mechanism, the Focus Program of the brain's systems, to function properly and without a crash, about a million subsets of PREVIOUS programs have to have been run---rivers of action and information carving away at the ground over which it relentlessly flows---motions that my fingers have made, the feel of the pen or brush or chalk on my skin, the books I've read on artists lives and historical art movements, mistakes I've made and corrected for, millions of words and images absorbed, motions made, muscles flexed, documentary films watched, and page after page after page of materials read, written, drawn, colored, and recited to my wife, then lost and forgotten... All of these subsets of previous programs have cut deep, deep channels in my interior landscape---my psyscape, if you will---to get to the point I'm at today. So that, in THE MOMENT, I'm not THINKING about all that stuff---but it's still THERE! Still ACTIVE! And now, with a few twitches of my finger something goes from NOTHING---from NON-EXISTENCE---to this:

to this!!!

Again, do any of these works MEAN anything? (In a cosmic sense?) Camus was an optimistic nihilist. I appreciated his sales pitch, even though I have a hard time buying his Snake Oil, even when it would be comforting to drink it up!

The IMMEDIATE, the MOMENTARY, the NOW... That's where we live, but few people visit, in a conscious sense. Fewer grasp it, even when they manage to find their way here...or THERE...depending on who's reading this...and/or when it's being read...

Cut the mid-range. Drop the bass...

I know I've never understood these types of things... I'm just a FOOL, after all...

People need... And WE (The People) provide. There's nobody else who will.
