For some reason, thinking about aliens makes me realize that they were never something as strange in my life as others would suppose, I mean, I was never abducted by them (or so I think) but with the arrival of the internet to my home and my growing curiosity about these beings that nobody particularly talked much about but were very common on television, I decided to take the time to "Investigate" a little.

I think every kid ever googled "real aliens" and came across videos that either gave them nightmares or only increased their need to know if there was something else out there in space even more.

I was both cases... Once I overcame my fear I continued looking for videos, stories, interviews and so on, they were very entertaining, but of course there was always that doubt if they were really telling the truth, but in many cases it turned out to be that they were not.

In spite of this, I continued to look for these videos, now with a new topic that joined them and they were the videos where they were disproved.

There are even now several programs and occasional videos on this topic that entertain me.

Combined with recurring visits to my aunt, who is also a fan of aliens and a program called Ancient Aliens, and the influences of an Instagram page called Hippieartesanatos I took on the task of creating this illustration.

I did not make a small sketch first, I took the cardboard and started to make the draft that would soon serve to draw the line, there were some variations between some ideas and others, such as the future implementation of an eye that was not previously planned.

I then left the sketch safely tucked away while I waited for my iPad to be fixed so I could bring the process to you.

My pen was giving more than one problem during the outlining, that's what I get for using it to detail an entire sketch and then shading it as if it were a charcoal or a drawing pencil.

With the outline finished and each element detailed, I just waited for the ink to dry well before I could start coloring.

I was debating whether to do a gray or a green alien, but I wanted something more standout so the pop culture green-skinned alien ended up winning out.

I tried to use another color for shading that wasn't just a darker green or turquoise as I usually do and I made a light shade with light blue, I wasn't sure how it would look but I liked the result, besides this I also illuminated with yellow color.

Once the alien had its skin colored a bright green I moved on to focus on those almond shaped black eyes that they are usually described with, adding some yellow light as well.

The hat I considered would have the most significance since anyone could ask why an alien wears a witch's hat? Surely they would consider that kind of beliefs or rituals as something meaningless and lacking in reason in a civilization like ours.

Well, not this alien.

He just enjoys the idea of learning more about our culture, even if he has chosen the most unconventional specimen for it.

And the color or rather the colors that are under the hat identify that person very well, but they will not recognize it unless I publish it, of course.

I gave a not very strong layer of black color to the rest of the hat that later would finish darkening leaving its respective illumination.

The bow on the hat if I did not know what color to do it in the first instance as there was a lot of color in the composition and although the pink generated a conflict for me because of the gender of the alien being, I decided to leave it, since it is not like the aliens identify themselves as us exactly.

With the little extraterrestrial being ready, now I only had to concentrate on the flowers and other elements around him, the most difficult part of the drawing.

I started with the bottom rose, I had already delineated what color I would make them, the roses would be red, blue and pink, although soon after I decided to use a stronger secondary pink.

I love these roses but I hate the whole process involved in making them, it is very time consuming and from the point of having to make them petal by petal we can say that it took me a long time. However the result is worth it...

The flowers in this illustration have no reading, because although I am fond of the language of flowers, they have nothing to tell this time... or do they?

Red roses symbolize love and passion, while pink roses, depending on their shade, can mean gratitude (deep pink) or youthful love, happiness or admiration (light pink). Finally, blue roses represent the marvelous, extraordinary and impossible.

From here on you can make your own conjectures...

Daisies are a symbol of purity, innocence and unconditional friendship, besides other connotations, I think these simpler flowers would create a proper balance between them and the roses that look heavier and more ornate.

Going with the planets, these were not planned to be this "psychedelic" with so many lines and figures, but after experimenting with the first one, this marked the future design of the others.

After all the flowers, leaves, weeds, planets and so on, all that was left was the ship, which I decided would have another small being looking for its fugitive friend. The cockpit has a bright green color while the upper part of the saucer is gray and the lower part is purple, throwing a beam of yellow light towards the alien below it.

With all the colored outline, which I must say, reminded me of a Christmas wreath, the only thing left was to decide what to do with the background.

First I wanted to make a galaxy, but I passed on the idea taking into account the color of the hat, so the next option was to make a blue background with marker, although it would only be on one side, but the other would look very empty so I opted to fill it all.

Take a series of colors such as light blue, yellow, pink and white to make details on that flat background, starting to give life to that stellar mantle little by little.

All that was left to do was to add a few dots of corrector pen, apply a little more color in light areas and that was it.

Although it's a bit more childish than what I'm used to, I hope you like it.

Por alguna razón, pensar en los extraterrestres me hace dar cuenta que nunca fueron algo tan extraño en mi vida como otros supondrían, digo, nunca fui abducido por ellos (O eso creo) pero con la llegada de internet a mi hogar y mi creciente curiosidad por estos seres de los que particularmente nadie hablaba mucho pero que si eran muy comunes en la televisión, decidí darme el tiempo de “Investigar” un poco.

Creo que todo niño alguna vez buscó en Google “Extraterrestres reales” y se encontró con videos que o le ocasionaron pesadillas o solo aumentaron incluso más su necesidad de saber si había algo más allá afuera en el espacio.

Yo fui ambos casos… Una vez superé mi miedo continué buscando videos, historias, entrevistas y demás, eran de lo más entretenido, pero claro siempre existía esa duda de si realmente decían la verdad, pero en muchos casos resultaba ser que no.

A pesar de esto, igual continué buscando estos videos, ahora con un nuevo tópico que se le unía y eran los videos en donde se les desmentían.

Incluso actualmente hay varios programas y ocasionales videos de este tema que me entretienen.

Combinado con las visitas recurrentes a mi tía, quien es fan de los alienígenas también y de un programa llamado Alienígenas ancestrales, y las influencias de una página de Instagram llamada Hippieartesanatos me di a la tarea de crear esta ilustración.

No hice un bosquejo pequeño primero, tomé la cartulina y comencé a realizar el borrador que pronto serviría para trazar la línea, hubo alguna variaciones entre algunas ideas y otras, como la implementación futura de un ojo que anteriormente no estaba planeado.

Después dejé el boceto bien guardado mientras esperaba a que arreglaran mi iPad para poder traerles el proceso.

Mi bolígrafo estuvo dando más de un problema durante el delineado, eso me pasa por usarlo para detallar todo un boceto y aparte darle sombras como si fuera un carboncillo o un lápiz de dibujo.

Con el delineado terminado y cada elemento detallado, solo esperé a que la tinta secara bien para poder comenzar a colorear.

Estuve debatiéndome entre sí hacer un alíen gris o uno verde, pero quería algo más resaltante por lo que el alíen de piel verde de la cultura pop terminó ganando.

Intente usar otro color para sombrear que no solo fuera un verde más oscuro o un turquesa como mayormente acostumbro e hice una sombra clara con color celeste, no estaba seguro de cómo quedaría pero me gustó el resultado, además de esto también iluminé con color amarillo.

Una vez que el alíen tuvo su piel coloreada de un brillante color verde pasé a enfocarme en aquellos ojos almendrados de color negro con los que suelen describirlos, agregando también algo de luz amarilla.

El sombrero consideró que sería lo que mayor significado tendría ya que cualquiera podría preguntarse ¿Porque un alíen lleva un sombrero de bruja? Si seguramente ellos considerarían esa clase de creencias o rituales como algo sin sentido y falto de raciocinio en una civilización como la nuestra.

Pues este alíen no.

El solo se divierte con la idea de conocer más acerca de nuestra cultura, aunque haya escogido al espécimen menos convencional para ello.

Y el color o más bien los colores qué hay debajo del gorro identifican muy bien a esa persona, pero no lo reconocerán a menos que lo publique, claro está.

Di una capa no muy fuerte de color negro al resto del sombrero que luego terminaría de oscurecer dejando su respectiva iluminación.

El lazo del sombrero si no supe de qué color hacerlo en primera instancia ya que había mucho color en la composición y aunque el rosa me generaba un conflicto por el género del ser alienígena, decidí dejárselo, ya que tampoco es como que los alienígenas se identifiquen como nosotros exactamente.

Con el pequeño ser extraterrestre listo ahora solo quedaba concentrarme en las flores y demás elementos a su alrededor, parte más difícil de todo el dibujo.

Comencé con la rosa de abajo, ya había delimitado de qué color las haría, las rosas serían rojas, azules y rosadas, aunque poco después me decidí a usar un rosa secundario más fuerte.

Amo estas rosas pero detesto todo el proceso que conlleva a hacerlas, es muy tardado y desde el punto de tener que hacerlas pétalo por pétalo podemos decir que me tarde un buen tiempo. Sin embargo el resultado lo vale…

Las flores en esta ilustración no tienen ninguna lectura, ya que aunque soy afanado al lenguaje de las flores, estas no tienen nada que contar esta vez… o si?

Las rosas rojas simbolizan el amor y la pasión, mientras que las rosadas; dependiendo de su tonalidad, pueden significar gratitud (rosa intenso) o el amor juvenil, felicidades o admiración (rosa claro) por último, las rosas azules, representan lo maravilloso, extraordinario e imposible.

De aquí en adelante pueden hacer sus propias conjeturas…

Las margaritas son símbolo de pureza, inocencia y amistad incondicional, además de otras connotaciones, creo que estas flores más sencillas crearían un balance adecuado entre ellas y las rosas que se ven más pesadas y ornamentadas.

Yendo con los planetas, estos no planeaban ser así de “psicodélicos” con tantas líneas y figuras, pero tras la experimentación con el primero de ellos, este marcó el futuro diseño de los demás.

Tras todas las flores, hojas, maleza, planetas y demás, ya solo quedaba la nave, que decidí tendría otro pequeño ser que busca a su amigo prófugo. La cabina tiene un color verde brillante mientras la parte superior del platillo es gris y la inferior morada, lanzando un rayo de luz amarilla hacia el alíen abajo de este.

Con todo el contorno coloreado que debo decir, me recordó a una corona de navidad, ya solo quedaba decidir que hacer con el fondo.

Primero quise hacer una galaxia, pero pasé de la idea tomando en cuenta el color del sombrero, así que la siguiente opción fue hacer un fondo azul con marcador, aunque solo sería de uno de los lados, pero el otro se vería muy vacío por lo que opté por rellenarlo todo.

Tome una serie de colores como celeste, amarillo, rosa y blanco para hacer detalles sobre ese plano fondo, comenzando a darle vida a aquel manto estelar poco a poco.

Solo quedaba agregar unos puntos con corrector líquido, aplicar un poco más de color en zonas claras y listo.

Aunque es un poco más infantil a lo que los tengo acostumbrados, espero les guste.
