I am a faithful follower of the works of Bao Pham, the expressions of the women in his paintings generate in me a feeling of warmth, it reminded me in something of works that my grandmother used to own, she always admired the crafts and her house was full of these, I remember that she also used to imitate them, drawing them on sheets of tracing paper that always ended up in folders from which I took them out to color. I was a terrible child indeed...

But back to the present, I was at my almost aunt's house helping her son with some illustrations for his school, between my breaks I usually doodle, using that extraneous material I experiment with, such as inferior quality colors, chalks, markers and other implements I don't use regularly.

Among so many sketches some good ideas came out, one of them was this one.

Although it was not a super original idea either; not so much because I was inspired by the works of the above mentioned, but because I had already done a similar work a few years ago, maybe 4 or more, a pink afro and Asian origins, although apart from this the difference was a lot.

I called it Cerezo.

I decided to keep this sketch, which did not exceed 10cm.

🍄 The Process 🍄

Once I felt ready, I selected a cardboard and began to draw.

The shape of his face was a little complicated to achieve, at first I looked for something more similar to the sketch but I preferred to opt for another option, a rather childish face, with round cheeks and a soft chin.

The coloring of her skin was mostly based on the first Cherry, or at least what I wanted in the first instance for this one, before deciding to cover her whole face with that dead-on cream tone.

I used to shy away from coloring or drawing things the way I wanted since the opinion of others mattered so much to me, I'd rather have to avoid questions like "Why does she have blue skin?" or that the fact that I decided to go out of the ordinary would affect the judgment of those who wanted to comment on her thinking.

Thank heavens, I eventually got past that stage. My opinion is the most important.

She still looks human, I like that. But the white color covering much of her face gives the feeling that she was some sort of clown, I like that too.

Once her skin color was ready along with her purple eyelashes, I was excited to start with her hair. I wanted to get crazy with that hair of frizzy unruly curls.

Crazy by my definition...

With a pink color I started to draw circles repeatedly, getting that curly hair texture I wanted, I implemented cream color and purple shadows and then continue with a persistent stippling with the same colors that would end up finishing such an afro.

His costume is based on the harlequin costumes, the colors are not fully nuanced as they would be in other illustrations of my authorship, I just didn't want to go too much out of the color scheme so I just added some between tones to draw attention.

The background was simple, a blue rectangle with vertical lines reminiscent of Japanese sliding doors.

Soy seguidor fiel de los trabajos de Bao Pham, las expresiones de las mujeres en sus cuadros me genera una sensación de calidez, me recordaba en algo a obras que mi abuela solía poseer, ella siempre admiró las artesanías y su casa estaba repleta de estas, recuerdo que ella también solía imitarlas, dibujándolas en hojas de papel de calcar que siempre terminaban en carpetas de las cuales yo las sacaba para colorear. Era un niño terrible la verdad...

Pero volviendo al presente, estaba en casa de mi casi tía ayudando a su hijo con algunas ilustraciones para el colegio del mismo, entre mis descansos suelo garabatear, usando aquel material ajeno con el que experimento, como colores de una calidad inferior, tizas, marcadores y otros implementos que no uso con regularidad.

Entre tantos bocetos salieron algunas ideas buenas, una de ellas fue esta.

Aunque tampoco era una idea super original; no tanto por haber sido inspirado por las obras del anterior mencionado, sino que ya había hecho una obra similar hacía unos cuantos años, quizás 4 o mas, un afro color rosa y orígenes asiáticos, aunque aparte de esto la diferencia era mucha.

La llamé Cerezo.

Decidí guardar dicho boceto, que no superaba los 10cm.

🍄 El Proceso 🍄

Una vez me sentí dispuesto, seleccioné una cartulina y comencé a trazar.

La forma de su rostro fue un poco complicada de lograr, en principio busqué algo mas parecido al bosquejo pero preferí optar por otra opción, un rostro mas bien infantil, con mejillas redondas y una barbilla suave.

El coloreado de su piel fue mayormente basado en la primer Cerezo, o al menos lo que quería en primera instancia para esta, antes de decidir cubrir toda su cara con aquel tono crema tan muerto.

Antes me cohibía de colorear o dibujar las cosas como quería ya que la opinión de los demás importaba mucho para mi, prefería tener que evitarme preguntas como "¿Porque tiene la piel azul?" o que el hecho de que decidiera salirme de la normalidad afectara el juicio de quienes querían comentar su pensar.

Gracias al cielo, con el tiempo superé esa etapa. Mi opinión es la mas importante.

Sigue pareciendo humana, eso me gusta. Pero el color blanco que cubre gran parte de su rostro da la sensación de que fuera una especie de payaso, eso también me agrada.

Una vez el color de su piel estuvo listo junto a sus pestañas moradas, estuve emocionado por comenzar con su cabello. Quería alocarme con aquella cabellera de crespos rizos rebeldes.

Alocarme según mi definición...

Con un color rosa empece a dibujar círculos repetidamente, obteniendo aquella textura del cabello rizo que deseaba, implementé color crema y sombras purpuras para después proseguir con un persistente puntillismo con los mismos colores que terminarían por dar acabo a semejante afro.

Su traje tiene base en los trajes de los arlequines, los colores no están plenamente matizados como si lo estarían en otras ilustraciones de mi autoría, simplemente no quería salirme mucho del esquema de color por lo que apenas agregué algunos entre tonos para llamar la atención.

El fondo fue simple, un rectángulo de color azul con lineas verticales que recuerda a la puertas corredizas japonesas.
