As an artist, there is a unique joy in taking something familiar and reimagining it. That was my goal when I set out to reimagine the character Mar Toren Trader from the game Splinterlands. Inspired by the original illustration, I wanted to breathe new life into the character, giving her a different style that would retain her personality while also highlighting her.
My goal was to portray her in a way that made her new and unique, without straying too far from her original design. I imagined her in a pose that conveyed her confidence, charm, and the qualities of a skilled trader. Her playful smile and dynamic stance were the focus of this artwork.

Every artwork begins with a basic sketch. I tried to capture the character’s pose, expression, and overall feel. The next step was to transform the sketch into clean line art. I paid special attention at this stage to balance the movement of her hair, tail, and pose. Mar Toren Trader’s bright color palette is an important part of her identity.
I brought out her adventurous spirit with her bright blue hair, orange jacket, and flowing tail. In this step, I added shadows, lighting, and textures to bring her personality to life. The coins in her hand sparkle, and the soft underwater effect brings the whole artwork to life.

The background completes the character. I created a simple yet interesting underwater scene, adding floating coins, bubbles, and sunlight shining through the water to create depth and atmosphere. This artwork was created entirely in Adobe Illustrator. This gave me the flexibility I needed for clean vector lines and detailed shading. I used gradients and textures to make sure that every part, from its scale to each strand of hair, looked complete.

It took time and patience to create this, but the result was very satisfying. Here are some step-by-step pictures of how it was made. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any feedback on my art, please let me know in the comments. Thank you.
