This past few days I have been inspired by spirituality so that leads me to Mystical Surrealism, a genre of Surrealist art and cultural movement that draws on mysticism, magic, myth, and the occult.
This artwork was inspired by my passion of books of spirituality, and spirituality in general. Since I was a kid, I had always a fascination with these type of themes of mystery and the whole ethereal imagery.
And I found only a few people that I can connect and just talk about spiritual things. That's because most people are so linked in the material world that they completely forget about the spiritual side of things and for me that is the most important because it's even more real than the actual physical world.
I felt so alone all my life, when I try to discuss these things, people say that is crazy and that they are afraid, or they make fun, so I stopped to bring those topics to conversation with family and friends, even if that's interesting for me.
But luckily that is changing, more and more I see people openly discussing these interesting spiritual topics publicly and that makes me so happy.
Specially online and specially young people, that brings me so much hope for this world, because the fact that we as humans are experiencing so much challenges in all aspects of our lives is because we lost that important connection with our spiritial nature and that has consecuences that we are facing nowadays in this day and age.
I feel like these past few months we are stepping into a new era of mass awakening, it's like the world is waking up to a new level of conciousness, and that brings me so much joy.
I finally don't feel like an outcast, but as a member of a community, the spiritual community of this world. Even if I don't personally know these people, I know they are out there somewhere and that is enough for me to celebrate.
I know they are out there because these people are making content online that I can watch and trully connect, stuff that I can actually relate, I never thought that this was possible!
That is what insired me to do this artwork, each one of these spiritual people is for me is a light in this dark world. A candle that even if it is little and nobody pays attention to it, it lights up this whole world, and that is everything!
Process
The first thing I did was the sketch, the line art very basic, just to give an idea of the shape of the face for that I used a reference searching for portrait photography I found aesthetic Portrait Photography with Brandon Woelfel
https://www.adorama.com/alc/tips-portrait-photography/
Specially for the hands because that's the most difficult part for me and in this particular artwork the hands are really important.
I already knew what to make so I had an idea in my head, a head that is a chandelier.
This is a part of the series of portraits of heads, I already made heads like plants, trees, like fryings pans, and now it's time to make a head with a candle.

Then I put the background color of pitch black, I wanted to make like a dark room style of background. Because it represents darkness and ignorance.

I put some colors on the skin

After a long process of trial and error, and fixing some details. I WAS HAPPY with the result. I find that this artwork reminds me of the horror movie posters of the hammer films, I really like that aesthetic and think that I have subconcious influence of that genre of movies in my art.
I finally made the cover artwork of the post with a velvet background on pixlr art this is the source:

RESULT
After all the details I made the light of the black candle more subtle and the features of the face more smooth so I ended up like a gothic woman almost that fits perfectly with the dark mysterious aesthetic.
I am really happy that I finally finish this work, because like a said in the intro it means so much to me, it a really personal work that I will always cherish in my heart.

Thank you so much for your visit to my dear blog, until next tine with more art!
