Discover - Ink drawing, 21 x 16cm, Inktober challenge 2024

Ahhh, yes! There it is! The feeling that I can do it. It instantly clicked in my mind once I decided what to create for the second day’s prompt - discover. There were no buts or ifs with this one. Creating something can be unnecessarily strenuous when the connection with the subject is missing. It was not the case here. The process flowed smoothly, like maple syrup on a hot pancake. I enjoyed every second of it and let go fully listening to multiple albums by Ghost. I am hoping for more connections similar to this one!

Discover? Discovery channel? You and me baby, ain't nothing but mammals… Discovery? Space shuttle? Star Trek? Hmm. No. Not for this one. Hmm. Discovering what? Aliens, discovering planets! Yes, that is it!

The process.

The idea was to create a window from the alien spaceship with a planet coming into view. The aliens are on a journey through deep space and doing what we humans only write in science fiction stories and watch in TV series such as Star Trek.

The hexagon shape immediately came to mind when imagining the window on the spaceship. Hexagon? Wait a minute, I have this Hive coaster I got at the Hivefest! I can use it to set up my drawing! So yeah! I used the Hivefest coaster as a template for the window shape.

The proof of the template!

I decided to give the washi tape another chance since I like the look of the clean edges. Maybe I was a bit too aggressive with the peeling? It worked! I peeled it very carefully and slowly. Imagine the scene with the sloth from Zootopia. In Latvian we have a saying - lēnāk brauksi, tālāk tiksi. I think it applies here. It means the slower you drive, the further you will get. Almost not a scratch on the paper!

Tools and materials used: Hahnemühle Mixed Media 310 g/m² paper, Jet black Diamine drawing and calligraphy ink, 971 violet and 968 peat brown Winsor & Newton inks, Pigma brush pen, white Sakura Gelly Roll 08 pen.

What should we name this planet, and what do you think the aliens will find there?

That time of year already!
Damn it is going fast this year.

The backpack is cute :)

Heeey! It is indeed going fast. Is it because we are very busy? Feels like it was just the start of the summer, but now I am digging closet for a sweater. The centralized heating has not been turned on yet. Pūciņa wants to spend most of the day on my lap to gather some warmth.

The backpack is cute :)

Thank you! ^^

What? The lady who named her account after a galaxy chose space for discovery? I am shocked, shocked, I say!

This is beautiful, and I mean both the art and your way of describing the ideas in your mind. The hexagon was perfect, you were literally inspired by Hive ❤️ How cool that you also went to Hive Fest like so many friends, I hope I can go someday too 🙏

Nice to meet you through your words!...
