Forest Chronicles : Something Stirs

In the Orion Arm of our Milky Way Galaxy is a star system quite unique. There is a planet named Hamruia, orbiting a binary star system tidally locked with each other and this leads to some peculiar seasonal variations on the planet.

In the Northern Reaches, it was a sight to behold, with 2 stars filling the sky almost constantly. The mountainous grasslands and valleys in between them flourished because of the warmth and light. When I say flourished, it was the flora which flourished for all the fauna seemed to prefer the Southern Forests.

For more than a thousand years, the Southern Forests were in almost perpetual darkness and most of its inhabitants had got used to the lack of light. The Hunari beings had in fact developed permanently dilated and fixed pupils in order for all the light to enter their eyes, at least whatever little was available. Talk about tidal locking leading to fixed and dilated pupils! On most planets, this would mean the organism is dead!

Other animals seemed to emanate a light of their own, different animals emanating different coloured hues and the whole Forest looked magical at times. The single moon of the planet reflected some light from the binary stars and this completed the picture in the Southern Forests.

Why all the animals preferred to live in the Forests was really intriguing! After all, the Northern Reaches were lush and all these animals could have lived luxuriously. In the last year however, something seems to be changing. The Hunari beings report hearing strange rumbling sounds travelling through the ground and they did not seem to have much doubt regarding the origin of these sounds. Also, the darkness seemed to be dissipating in the Southern Forest in the last couple of months.

After a millennium of peace, it looked like it was time to bring out the Rune Bows!

---- The Historian

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well. Thank you all once again for your continued support and encouragement :).

I am not able to post as often as before but I definitely am following all the wonderful posts here, especially in this community. I have also been trying to learn some 2D art, when possible.

I think writing about forests and generating AI art with forests as the main theme has become an obsession for me now. I don’t really know why. There is some alluring charm, a mystery that is difficult to comprehend. I had a different story in mind when I started writing this piece but the story took its own turn as I was writing it. I hope to continue writing as often as possible and show you some Rune Bows (not rainbows) I drew in the next post. Thank you all for reading :). See you in the next one!
