Saint George inadvertently cuts of his own penis

I wasn't able to work yesterday with the invasion of Ukraine going on. I tried listening to an audio book while drawing, but neither Tolstoy's "The Cossacks" , nor making art seemed any good. I'll have to return to Leo and his book about the Caucasian war another day (A war that was part of the imperialist expansion of Russia and which included the Russian genocide on Caucasian people, which was another reason to wait a bit listening to this great author).

But I made this one a week ago. I didn't intend any symbolism at all just let my imagination run free - some Rasputin and some Cthulhu, but even I can see all kinds of allegory in it now.

So be it.

I heard "Cthulhu" and I came. Allegorically ;)

So glad to hear from you! One of the bad things about the anonymous darknet is that you can't find people after they leave the platform, the internet or... this universe.

I have made a website where you can find my e-mail if you want to contact me for any reason... katharsisdrill.art

I will see if I can escape the gloomy mood I'm in by doing something mythos based... so you can come again... allegorically.

A war in Europe is a bit distracting.

Over here we think of St George as British, but he probably never came here and is a saint to lots of other places too. I see you went for another different style with this. Nice work.

It is terrible as war always is. I am schocked and the fear of my childhood - atomic carnage and the aggression of the superpowers - has returned. i am a grown man, but it hurts to see my youngest inherit the same anxiety now. They just overcame corona-virus and now this so close by.

I don't intend to be political, and I vowed long time ago that I would only do political art that was cryptic and ambiguous. So the reading of this is more about the whole history of the Moscovite Empire than it is about the current conflict. Saint George is in truth used by many others than the English. As you can see the shield on the breast of the twin headed eagle sports that same saint...

I grew up in the cold world too. We had fear of various terrorism too. Now we seem to have gone backwards into that state of fear again. Most people just want to live in peace, but a few politicians like to stoke the fires of hate.

Sadly, yes.

Art... its Allegory all the way down.

True - even when you don't plan it that way.

Hello @katharsisdrill. Sharp objects in the hands of the wrong person is a recipe for disaster.

Thanks for sharing.

:) so true.

I adore allegorical art and pieces dripping with meaning always entices me. This is really stunning @katharsisdrill The overlay of the white illustrative almost illuminating manuscript is so effective.

We are living in Future History books, of course we won't know what those books shall say , just yet, for it will be writ by the 'winners' of that future. At least we artists can both help to distract with our skill and also sneak in a bit of real or imagined history and politic here and there ;)

Yes, and right now i would like that history book to be as boring as possible!

I bet you can see some now! Just letting the ideas flow and flow out sometimes takes us into unknown but very beautiful territory. Love it!

THanks :)
