Alien Art Hive has been hosting a community contest for a few months now where we give a theme and challenge our members to make some art. This round the theme is to create a book cover (either a redesign of a book you love or a cover for a made up book). There is still another week to enter, check out the post details here: Cosmic Creations: Design a book cover
Look at these beauties!
I'm obviously a huge fan of the sci-fi genre and I think the 70s to 80s era of book covers have some of the most incredible art so I'm going to share some of my favorites here if you need some inspiration!
I used to have a massive book collection but sadly each time we moved we gave away quite a lot of our books, also once I got a kindle it seemed silly to keep all these books around. It's the logical and economical solution but I can't say I wasn't sad to part with them.
We kept a small collection of our favorites, @vachemorte mostly kept his Jack Vance books and I mostly kept my Kurt Vonnegut and Margaret Atwood collection.
Some sexy ones 👀
Last one I will share is by Jeff Vandermeer, I haven't read all his books but I would highly recommend his Southern Reach trilogy, it's incredibly strange and addictive though I found the first book of the series to be the best!
I don't have any of the physical copies :/ but I do have this one by him that has a very nice cover which funny enough mentions the trilogy on the cover LOL:
If you're feeling inclined post a book cover you love in the comments!

I'm also a fan of science fiction. In all its forms. I am surprised to see some written in French or perhaps there are words similar to our two languages.
Example: Rhialto le Merveilleux, Chroniques de Durdane, Un Monde Azur, Marune : Alastor 933.
I haven't read them but it makes me want to find them again to discover them. I'm going to try to create a cover. Thanks for the reminder!!!
Yes those belong to my boyfriend @vachemorte he is French!
Everything is explained, he comes from the same country as me!! A small country full of history. I also understand the nickname he chose "Vachemorte" It sounded French lol.
I'm a great fan of sci-fi. Both movies and books.
But I've been into non-fiction books for quite some time now, I think you have just rekindled my love for reading sci-fi books. I will what's available in the library tomorrow.
A good stuff, I am up for more.
Seems Jack Vance is dominating hugely here, may I ask why?..
I used to search for sci-fi book covers a lot, for me the most pleasure is to compare different covers of a same novel. For example, Stanislav Lem...
Two years ago I have brought to the blockchain a selection of covers for the wonderful series by J.R. Martin "Taf Voyaging". Have you read it, by any chance?..
I don't think I've Taf Voyaging no, I'll add it to my list! The Jack Vance books belong to my boyfriend it's his favorite SciFi author. They are in French mostly and I don't enjoy reading in French I read very slow so I've only read a few but they were really good 👽
Actually I've 1st asked then figured out that from comments section :P
In Russia where I live Vance was not considered among the top number-ones sci-fi authors of the golden age; he was getting some translations, but really not much. Among my personal faves there were other names, speaking of the solid 'number one' - it was Robert Heinlein. I've obtained his 'Stranger in a Strange land' in original US paperback edition and still keep it somewhere, but all of the books read in Russian translations... so, I am enjoying these stunning covers only via internet and google search. !LUV
@qwerrie sent you LUV 🙂 (1/1)

These tapas are delicious! The last one I like the colour but the second one playing the violin is wowww. What a great collection!!! 😍
It's been a while since I read it but the robot violin one was really good, it's a few short stories and that one is about a robot that develops emotions
It will be possible for an AI to develop emotions.... interesting to see from today's perspective. Beautiful book covers!
These are great recommendations. Thanks. My to read library is increasing so much coz it's taking me forever to finish Stephen King, Gunslinger Chronicles but I'll definitely check these titles out.
Yeah gunslinger long a long read!

.You are truly a big fan of sci-fi books
I’m not a fan though but I usually appreciate good works
That’s great
I have not really been a fan of fiction most especially the science fiction and I am thinking of actually working on loving it
Sf I have read all my life, probably many books that you have not heard of. Many of them are by American authors. I was born in 1956. I don't read anymore, but like to listen, movies, etc. It's a fun idea, would like to join. Got a frozen shoulder, so it's hard for me to paint now. Or maybe I already have a painting!
Oww hope it feels better soon that's rough 😭
Awesome cover. I love sci-fi. Thanks for sharing. I plan to add a few more themes for my short fiction publications.
