For this week I choose to do a fan art of Scorch Fiend. I had fun on designing my own approach to this character.

Digital Art Creation Process

STEP 1
Sketching > Lines

At the start of the process, I am thinking of a word play coming from the character's name.
Scorch = Burn, Flame or Heat
Fiend = Evil Spirit or Demon
I go for something like a fire spirit with some rock armor.
I did a very rough sketch for the pose and the idea that I will be creating. Starting with the pose I also think of making it's silhouette a very simply one, to make it more recognizable.

From there, I sketch the forms and shapes of the character which I give it simple and complex design form.

Then, clean up those lines to have a clear readability.

STEP 2
Coloring

At the start of coloring I fill it in local color of the armor. And lock those pixels.

Add a layer for the base color.

Add another layer set it to multiply and by using gradient tool brush in a dark color for his armor.

Next, add the darker shadows. Pick a darker gray color and set that layer to multiply.

Also do it to the parts of the flame. Set layer to multiply and brush in some shadow.

Here I add another layer and set it to overlay. Pick some color around the white and brush in to add highlights and textures.

In here I add a glow from top and another bounce lights.

Finally, Color balancing and add ground where the character stands.

That's it we're done!
