The Old Ballerina | La Vieja Bailarina | (ENG - ESP)

English Version

I recently saw an interview on television of an old Venezuelan dancer. She is now very advanced in age and commented that her body is no longer the same as when she was young, although in her spirit she wants to continue dancing as before. However, in the interview she did not look sad at all, in fact, she seemed happy with all the support she had made in the art of dancing throughout her life. That brief interview was the inspiration for today's drawing.

The concept is about how we age slowly, our body deforms, we are no longer the same and in some cases it does not allow us to make our art, as in the case of the dancer I told you about. That's why in the drawing you can see this kind of life cycle, represented in this case by the surrealistic deformed body of a dancer.

Process

This is a digital drawing, and as always, I want to show you some of my process. I start with the layer of lines of the twisted dancer. I confess that I had a hard time putting the design together, since at first I wasn't sure how to capture the idea in an image. In the end I ended up creating the following drawing:

In the coloring I used a yellowish green for the skin. The lips of the face that emerges from the twisted torso of the dancer, I drew them in blue, and her pupils in red. I always like to play with colors in this way. I think it is better to show you images of the coloring:

I finish with a layer of shadows and highlights. In this case it was very important, since here I play with the deformation of the dancer's body, where the shading plays the main role to intensify this effect.

Cool idea 😊💡

Thanks a lot! :)

This turned out super interesting. I would have never guessed your inspiration. It reminds me of the old movie The Thing... the original John Carpenter version. Great work!

Sometimes when I'm doing everyday things like watching TV, reading a book, or walking, I come up with some really weird ideas to create. Because of that, I wouldn't guess where my own inspirations come from either, hahahaha.

I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't seen that movie lol, but I know what it is, I've seen some scenes. In fact, I really want to see that movie, since I know that I will find some inspiration there (I think, because as I said, ideas come from the least expected places, hahahaha). Thanks bro!

Well... when you get a chance... here is a link to the movie

Don't feel bad... it's before your time little browski! hahaha
Find inspiration wherever and whenever you can. Let the creativity flow!

Wow, I think I'll see that movie this weekend, at night of course, hahahaha. Thanks for the link bro!!!

I think you are gonna dig it and you will see why your art made me think of it!

I am sure it will be so!

Sadness, hope, and truth, in one piece of art -- well done!

Hello @deeanndmathews! Yes, life is like that, there are good times and bad times. Though I think that's what makes it such a great adventure. I'm glad you liked it, thanks! =)
