What's up people, how are you? welcome to a new post this afternoon I was finishing Mukōzuke, that's the title of an episode of the series Hannibal, at the time it was on netflix when I watched the series.... This episode was very shocking I remember it from 2018, it was chilling the way the whole episode was shown, if you search Hannibal Mukōzuke on youtube surely you will see the scene I am referring to. Evidently it is something gory but I didn't want to do it that way in my illustration, I wanted something more soft but with the same idea, without being something twisted, just a different effect.
Process / Proceso
The whole process was the usual, a normal portrait illustration, as usual, I started by placing the base colors of the skin, as realistic as possible, I used very pastel colors, so it was laborious to make the skin, then texturing it a little with a bristle brush, I think I had a long time without using a color palette as warm as this, it was fun to place all the lights and shadows on the face, after finishing the bases of the skin I started with the hair.
I really enjoyed doing the hair with this type of palette, it is pleasing to the eye, the shadows and shimmers get a bit tricky, I first placed the bases, blending smoothly then moved on to texturizing with a very fine bristle brush, I was just testing how it looked, it had an interesting result, I will keep experimenting to see what I get, in turn this is the most time consuming part of the whole process, each hairline is done by hand, so yes, it is a few hours spent just painting the hair.
After finishing the hair I started to fix and erase some little things in the lineart to get a more realistic illustration, I put shadows to soften the colors and some layers also to intensify the glows in the hair, new textures and loose strands around the head, shadows, in fact I modified everything that could be improved to be able to join the whole image.
Then I made the same cuts that come out in Mukōzuke but without that twisted background that adds the series, I also placed a kind of interesting smoke as if there were the separate parts.
This was the whole post, hope you liked it, until next time!
I like the second to last image in the process. It's a very expressive and emote representation of a character. The gaze of the eye is at once enticing and intimidating.
Yes, you're absolutely right, his gaze is captivating, most of all, that's why I kept the other eye as full as I could when making the cuts.
