Monsters!! And Ghosts! And Fish ^^ And Birds?
Acrylic on wood, ca 15x15cm
This is the third artwork I've made during the time in Saranda/Albania, just finished it before we had to leave.
We had rented a little apartment for two months so I finally could get back into physical painting. And I enjoyed it so so much!
The Zen Master Cat
Raki & Friends
A friend of mine (he's an artist too) gave me two pieces of wood to paint on. Really beautiful ones, so this is actually two artworks in one! On one side you have my painting and on the other you have Mother Nature's art:
Nature doesn't care about process pictures ^^ So I can only show you my own painting process.
I started with a rough idea, but without a sketch (the sketch you see on the photo is from an idea that I had before but didn't like).
Basically just blobs of color for a start :)
I like to start a painting that way because it leaves so much space for imagination.
At some point I always start to see faces and little creatures in the blobs and slowly a kind of story emerges.
By accident (or was it a subconscious decision?) I've chosen exactly 5 different colors and every color fills exactly 5 places in the painting.
I've realized that only after the piece was finished ^^
Maybe it doesn't mean anything but it gives the piece another layer of balance :)
The outlines are painted in a dark brown that fits the color of the wood.
I used a brush that I had cut so that it's really really tiny and suitable for drawing those exact lines (I've mentioned it in this post about another painting).
You can already see the little people in it, don't you?
And here they are!
A funny little crowd :)
This is how it stayed for a few days, but I still had the feeling that something was missing ...
Teeth!
Of course!
Now it's not as peaceful anymore, but life isn't too, which makes it much more interesting and exciting ;)
This artwork also lives in a cafe in Saranda at the moment, I will share photos of the place soon :)
Thank you for reading <3

it's a perfect portrait of self~eating~"humanity"
good job on the wood! ;)
Ha, super interesting to hear your interpretation!
I really like painting on wood, and stones also, natural materials. They are not as frail as a canvas.
<3
they are for sure :) and with very different vibration at least to say...
yes, it feels more like co-creating with nature then :)
So creative, loved it!
Yeih! Happy you like it! <3
The teeth sure did the trick!
Awesome to hear this! Looking forward to hearing whether it turned into a table or can be found on a wall.
Big hug!
Ah, that would be a super tiny table, it's only about 15x15cm big ^^ A table for mice maybe :)
It's actually standing on a shelf, it looks great!
Haha, I see. A table for mice sounds cute though :<)
