Uchouten Kazoku is an anime that we will not want to miss and that is totally worth watching, both for its characters, its mysterious story and its beautiful scenery accompanied by a relaxing soundtrack. It is one of those anime that are not made so often anymore and that, for its originality and fresh plot, will captivate us in the first episodes.
The story of Uchouten Kazoku is set and developed in Kyoto, where three types of inhabitants reside: the tanuki (a kind of Japanese raccoon that is able to change its shape at will), the tengu (creatures that possess wind powers) and, finally, the humans.
Our protagonist is Shimogamo Yasaburou and is the third son of a tanuki family residing in the Tadasu no Mori forest of the Temple. The main members of his family are his three brothers, his mother and his father, Souichirou; the latter is the head of the tanuki clan until, on a day like any other, he falls victim to the dreaded Friday Club, a gloomy human group whose tradition is a celebratory banquet every year and whose main course must be a tanuki.
Since then, Yasaburou will take over the care of an old tengu, he will also be forced to fight with other tanuki and get involved with a human girl who has a somewhat particular powers; all this while trying to get closer to the true reality of the death of his father and the secret behind it and we will witness how this event seriously affected the Shimogamo family.
The relationship between the tengus and the tanukis is not very good as the latter are constantly branded as cowardly and weak beings. Because of this, the Shimogamo family will have another challenge to face, as there will be no shortage of threats and attacks from the tengus.
The four main siblings, named Yaichirou, Yajirou, Yasaburou and Yashirou, are the ones who support the Shimogamo family and each one of them has, with their different personalities, their own secrets, fears, dreams and a different way of dealing with the death of their father. The mother of these four is the perfect mother figure who supports them in moving forward and is an important pillar of support for the family. Uchouten Kazoku constantly shows us the father they lost years ago, as his memory and recollections are something that has marked the lives of his children.
Not only will we see the Shimogamo family, but also several interesting characters are added, such as the old tengu, the stealthy Kaisei and her siblings, an evil uncle, Professor Akamada and Benten, a character we won't know much about and who maintains his air of mystery for almost the entire anime. We find the design of these characters fascinating and quite particular.
There is only one word to describe the scenography of this anime: beautiful. There is a Japanese folkloric aura that is pleasant to watch and embellishes the very tragedy of the Shimogamo family and its emotional denouement. We will be fascinated by the charming color palette and the animations of the varied scenarios that Uchouten Kazoku offers us.

If we find the animation of Uchouten Kazoku beautiful, then its soundtrack perfectly complements the essence of this anime. We will hear heartbreaking melodies for the saddest moments that will break our hearts, but we will also have happy and relaxing songs to get in the mood with the funny and comical situations that the characters of Uchouten Kazoku will offer us.
Uchouten Kazoku, in short, has an excellent and varied cast of characters, a script that we will find interesting and we will not be able to hold the desire to cry and laugh with the follies of the protagonists and with the mysterious story behind the Shimogamo family.
Uchouten Kazoku is definitely an anime that makes us see that we don't need exhaustive fanservice, meaningless supernatural elements, exaggerated action or even dramatic romance to be excited and not want to leave the anime for a moment, due to the incredible plot twists that, on more than one occasion, will leave us surprised and dumbfounded.

Uchouten Kazoku es un anime que no nos querremos perder y que vale totalmente la pena verlo, tanto por sus personajes, su misteriosa historia y sus lindos escenarios acompañados por una banda sonora relajante. Es uno de aquellos animes que ya no se realizan tan seguido y que, por su originalidad y fresco argumento, nos cautivará en los primeros episodios.
La historia de Uchouten Kazoku se ubica y desarrolla en Kyoto, donde en su interior residen tres tipos de habitantes: los tanuki (una especie de mapache japonés que es capaz de cambiar su forma a voluntad), los tengu (criaturas que poseen poderes de viento) y, por último, los humanos.
Nuestro protagonista es Shimogamo Yasaburou y es el tercer hijo de una familia de tanukis que reside en el bosque Tadasu no Mori del Templo. Los miembros principales de su familia son sus tres hermanos, su madre y su padre, Souichirou; este último es el jefe del clan tanuki hasta que, en un día como cualquier otro, cae víctima del temido Club de los Viernes, un tétrico grupo humano que tiene como tradición un banquete de celebración cada año y cuyo plato principal debe ser un tanuki.
Desde entonces, Yasaburou se hará cargo del cuidado de un viejo tengu, también se verá obligado a pelear con otros tanuki y se involucrará con una chica humana que posee unos poderes un tanto particulares; todo esto mientras intenta acercarse a la verdadera realidad de la muerte de su padre y el secreto que se esconde detrás y seremos testigos de cómo este evento afectó gravemente a la familia Shimogamo.
La relación entre los tengus y los tanukis no es muy buena pues a estos últimos, constantemente, se les tacha de seres cobardes y débiles. Debido a esto, la familia Shimogamo tendrá otro reto más al enfrentarse, pues no faltarán las amenazas y ataques de parte de los tengus.
Los cuatros hermanos protagonistas, llamados Yaichirou, Yajirou, Yasaburou y Yashirou, son los que sostienen a la familia Shimogamo y cada uno de ellos posee, con sus diferentes personalidades, sus propios secretos, miedos, sueños y una manera distinta de lidiar con la muerte de su padre. La madre de estos cuatro es la figura materna perfecta que los apoya a seguir adelante y supone un pilar importante para el soporte de la familia. Uchouten Kazoku nos muestra constantemente al padre que perdieron hace años, pues su memoria y recuerdos son algo que ha marcado la vida de sus hijos.
No solo veremos a la familia Shimogamo, sino que también se le suma varios personajes interesantes como, por ejemplo, al viejo tengu, la sigilosa Kaisei y sus hermanos, un tío malvado, al profesor Akamada y a Benten, un personaje del cual no sabremos mucho y que mantiene su aire de misterio por casi todo el anime. El diseño de estos personajes nos resulta fascinante y bastante particular.
Existe solo una palabra para describir la escenografía de este anime: hermosa. Se respira un aura folclórica japonesa que resulta agradable de ver y embellece la tragedia misma de la familia Shimogamo y su emotivo desenlace. Quedaremos fascinados con la encantadora paleta de colores y las animaciones de los variados escenarios que nos ofrece Uchouten Kazoku.

Si la animación de Uchouten Kazoku nos resulta hermosa, entonces su banda sonora complementa a la perfección la esencia de este anime. Escucharemos melodías desgarradoras para los momentos más tristes que nos romperán el corazón, pero también tendremos canciones alegres y relajantes para entrar en ambiente con las situaciones divertidas y cómicas que los personajes de Uchouten Kazoku nos ofrecerán.
Uchouten Kazoku, en resumen, posee un excelente y variado elenco de personajes, un guion que nos resultará interesante y no podremos aguantarnos las ganas de llorar y reír con las locuras de los protagonistas y con la misteriosa historia que se encuentra detrás de la familia Shimogamo.
Uchouten Kazoku definitivamente es un anime que nos hace ver que no necesitamos de un exhaustivo fanservice, elementos sobrenaturales sin sentido, acción exagerada o, incluso, de un romance dramático para estar emocionados y no querer despegarse ni un momento del anime, debido a los increíbles giros argumentales que, en más de una ocasión, nos dejaran sorprendidos y boquiabiertos.
