It's funny because according to what I read this manga/anime was going to have a darker plot, only that the editor made the creator see more than 100 works of romance so he would change his perspective of seeing things a little bit, maybe that's why the romance is so good in this work.

I think it may be because the author did a good job that could be improved even more. All it took was a slightly different emphasis and basing the action on other threads.
