I came across Wind Breaker thanks to a recommendation from a friend, but I'll be honest: the first time I tried it, I couldn't get into it. It wasn't the anime's fault; I was just at a point in my life where not even Sakura throwing punches could make me smile. I gave up and thought: “maybe another time.” That “another time” came when they announced the second season and everyone was talking about the anime. So I said: okay, it's now or never. This time I was more relaxed, more focused, and I watched it with my sister (which automatically improves any experience). And that's when it happened: I was hopelessly hooked on Sakura and all the adorable chaos of Furin.

I already had a feeling it would be an anime about fights and gangs (you see the aesthetics and you know where it's going), but after loving Tokyo Revengers, I learned that these stories always hide a soft heart behind all that testosterone. And that was just what I needed: something to entertain me, clear my head, and give me that mental break that I appreciate with all my heart.

Llegué a Wind Breaker gracias a la recomendación de un conocido, pero voy a ser sincera: la primera vez que lo intenté no logré conectar. No era culpa del anime; yo simplemente estaba en un momento de mi vida donde ni Sakura tirando golpes me iba a sacar una sonrisa. Lo dejé y pensé “quizás en otro momento”. Ese “otro momento” llegó cuando anunciaron la segunda temporada y todo el mundo estaba hablando del anime. Así que dije: ok, es ahora o nunca. Esta vez estaba más relajada, más concentrada, y lo vi con mi hermana (lo cual automáticamente mejora cualquier experiencia). Y allí sí: me enganché sin remedio con Sakura y todo el caos adorable de Furin.

Yo ya intuía que sería un anime de peleas y pandillas (uno ve la estética y sabe por dónde van los tiros), pero después de amar Tokyo Revengers, aprendí que estas historias siempre esconden un corazoncito suave detrás de tanta testosterona. Y eso era justo lo que necesitaba: algo que me divirtiera, me despejara y me diera ese break mental que una agradece con el alma.

This anime takes you to an area of Tokyo that used to be a total disaster: fights everywhere, daily chaos, and a Furin high school so troubled that even the police were afraid to patrol it. Hakura Sakura arrives precisely for that reason: he wants to fight, he wants chaos, he wants to rise to the top with his fists. But... Plot twist: nothing is the same as it used to be.

Two years ago, Hajime Umemiya (🥰) and his group of friends decided that the Furin would no longer be a plague on the city and would become its personal guard. Now they are still fighters, yes, with their punches, blood, and testosterone... but only against those who threaten the peace of the people. That's what makes them so adorable: they are criminals, but with a moral code stronger than your home Wi-Fi signal. So beloved by the citizens that they named them: Wind Breaker.

It's an anime that combines violence with moments of brotherhood, unintentional humor, and that warm vibe of “we're a mess, but we're a mess together.” And although Sakura arrived seeking a reign of chaos... he'll end up finding something much better than a throne: a chosen family.

Hakura Sakura llega justamente por eso: él quiere pelear, quiere caos, quiere subir a la cima a punta de puñetazos. Pero... Plot twist: ya nada es como antes.

Hace dos años, Hajime Umemiya (🥰) y su grupo de amigos decidieron que la Furin dejara de ser una plaga para la ciudad y se convirtiera en su guardia personal. Ahora siguen siendo unos peleones, sí, con sus golpes, su sangre y su testosterona… pero solo contra quienes amenacen la tranquilidad de la gente. Eso es lo que los hace tan adorables: son delincuentes, pero con un código moral más firme que la señal de wifi de tu casa. Tan queridos por los ciudadanos, que los nombraron: Wind Breaker.

Es un anime que combina violencia con momentos de hermandad, humor involuntario y esa vibra cálida de “somos un desastre, pero somos un desastre juntos”. Y aunque Sakura llegó buscando un reinado de caos… terminará encontrando algo mucho mejor que una cima: una familia elegida.

Wind Breaker knows how to combine two worlds that, in theory, shouldn't fit together: wild fights that get your adrenaline pumping and introspective messages that make you say: “Ok, these guys really think, really feel, really grow.” It's not an anime where everything is just about hitting each other for the sake of it; at least here they make the reasons clear, there's a cause that matters and a huge heart behind every punch. Yes, it romanticizes violence—like most of this genre—but it stands firm in its message that the purpose is to protect, not destroy.

In addition, it has those calmer chapters, which add a delightful spark to the story. They allow you to breathe between fights, laugh, grow fond of everyone, and remember that they are young people experiencing normal things... when they're not breaking walls with their fists, of course.

Wind Breaker sabe combinar dos mundos que, en teoría, no deberían encajar: peleas salvajes que te suben la adrenalina y mensajes introspectivos que te hacen decir “ok, estos muchachos sí piensan, sí sienten, sí crecen”. No es un anime donde todo es dar golpes porque sí; al menos aquí te dejan los motivos claros, existe una causa que importa y un corazón enorme detrás de cada puñetazo. Sí, romantiza la violencia —como la mayoría de este género—, pero se mantiene firme en el mensaje de que el propósito es proteger, y no destruir.

Además, tiene esos capítulos más calmados, que le dan una chispa deliciosa a la historia. Te permiten respirar entre pelea y pelea, reírte, encariñarte con todos y recordar que son jóvenes viviendo cosas normales… cuando no están rompiendo paredes con un puño, claro.

Emotionally, it transmits a lot of adrenaline—because the hype surrounding the fights is incredibly well done—but the best part is seeing how the characters evolve. That part is more moving than any combo of punches. And don't even get me started on the pace: the episodes feel very short, but not because they lack content, but because everything moves forward. No filler, no unnecessary twists and turns, just story and more story flowing.

And if we're talking about the characters, then I have to start with the protagonist, Haruka Sakura, who makes me feel absurdly tender. He comes across as a tough, cold guy, the typical “nobody understands me, leave me alone” type, but from the beginning you know that inside he's pure heart. Yes, he's strong, yes, he's intimidating, but emotionally he's an adorable mess. He doesn't know how to communicate anything, he feels too much and has no idea how to handle it, so he's always on the verge of exploding. And that's his development: seeing him open up, connect, share, and trust those around him.

A nivel emocional transmite mucha adrenalina —porque el hype de las peleas está increíblemente bien logrado—, pero lo más bonito es ver cómo evolucionan los personajes. Esa parte toca más que cualquier combo de golpes. Y ni hablar del ritmo: los capítulos se sienten cortísimos, pero no porque falte contenido, sino porque todo avanza. Sin relleno, sin vueltas innecesarias, solo historia y más historia fluyendo.

Y si hablamos de los personajes, entonces debo comenzar por el protagonista Haruka Sakura, que me genera una ternura absurda. Él llega con toda la pose de chico rudo, frío, el típico “nadie me entiende, déjenme en paz”, pero desde el principio sabes que por dentro es puro corazón de melón. Sí, es fuerte, sí, es intimidante, pero emocionalmente es un desastre adorable. No sabe comunicar nada, siente demasiado y no tiene idea de cómo manejarlo, así que está siempre a una emoción de explotar. Y ese es su desarrollo: verlo abrirse, conectar, compartir y confiar en quienes le rodean.

Among my favorites is Hajime Umemiya, of course. The leader, who steals your heart within the first five minutes. He is the strongest, the most respected, the most imposing... but he is also a chaotic sweetheart who lights up any scene, especially with his interest in his little plants. He has that Gojo-style charm, but if Gojo had decided to lead an army of good-hearted delinquents. And then there's Hayato Suō, who made me laugh from his first line of dialogue. He's calm, kind, patient, the emotional anchor of the group, the one who keeps everyone sane, and at the same time, the one who surprises you when he fights. He has that whole “I'm calm, but don't underestimate me” vibe.

And obviously, I can't leave out Akihiko Nirei, because my sister would kill me, but also because he deserves it. He is the emotional heart of the anime, the Takemichi of the group: he doesn't know how to fight, he feels helpless when he can't help, and he suffers because of it. And who hasn't been through moments like that, feeling like they don't have the tools to face something? His friendship with Sakura is beautiful because they are complete opposites, but they complement each other in a way that makes the scenes between them, along with Suo, give you a tightness in your chest.

Entre mis favoritos está Hajime Umemiya, por supuesto. El líder, que te roba el corazón en los primeros cinco minutos. Es el más fuerte, el más respetado, el más imponente… pero también es un dulcito caótico que ilumina cualquier escena, especialmente con su interés por sus plantitas. Tiene ese encanto estilo Gojo, pero si Gojo hubiera decidido liderar a un ejército de delincuentes con buen corazón. Y luego está Hayato Suō, que me hizo reír desde su primer diálogo. Es calmado, amable, paciente, el equilibrio emocional de todos, el que mantiene la cordura del grupo y, al mismo tiempo, el que sorprende cuando pelea. Tiene toda la vibra de “soy tranquilo, pero no me subestimes”.

Y obviamente, no puedo dejar por fuera a Akihiko Nirei, porque mi hermana me mata, pero también porque se lo merece. Él es el corazón emocional del anime, el Takemichi del grupo: no sabe pelear, se siente impotente cuando no puede ayudar, y sufre por eso. ¿Y quién no ha pasado por momentos así, sintiendo que no tiene las herramientas para enfrentar algo? Su amistad con Sakura es preciosa porque son opuestos totales, pero se complementan de una manera que hace que las escenas entre ellos, junto con Suo, te dé un apretón en el pecho.

I loved the animation in Wind Breaker: the colors, the character designs, everything flows really well and makes the fights feel even more epic. I was hooked by the end of the second season and had to start reading the manga—I couldn't wait!✨ It's not an anime for everyone, but if you liked Tokyo Revengers, give it a try: they're not the same, but they have that vibe of gangs, friendship, and growth that makes it totally worth it🩷

La animación de Wind Breaker me encantó: colores, dibujo de los personajes, todo fluye súper bien y hace que las peleas se sientan todavía más épicas.
