Imperial China is a mystery that has inspired many films and anime series, including the famous anime The Apothecary's Diaries, which many of us are fans of, but it is not the only one. Yesterday, I devoured the only season, or episodes available, of another anime inspired by imperial China, which, like the aforementioned anime, includes elements of fantasy. Its name is
Koukyuu no Karasu
This anime tells the story of a special consort who, even though she lives in the inner palace, is not expected to perform the usual nightly duties and does not kneel before the emperor, making her an enigmatic figure. This consort is known as the crow consort.
As expected, this anime revolves around palace intrigues surrounding the emperor, who has managed to regain his throne from the empress dowager, who killed his mother and disinherited him.
As the inner palace is a place where so much intrigue and betrayal has taken place, there are many ghosts, so the emperor himself begins to visit the crow consort, leading to a rapprochement that changes everything.
A historical anime is perfect for introducing fantasy stories, and here they do so by telling us the story of the previous dynasty, to which the consort belongs, and the reasons why she is in hiding.
The crow consort, whose name is Shouxue, is a beautiful 16-year-old girl. I must say that in the animation, they took great care in making her a beautiful headdress, which I think is one of her main attractions. In addition, her hairpins had bells or something that made a sound when she moved her head, not to mention the color of her eyes, which makes her interesting.
The animation is not charming or dazzling, but as it is a story full of intrigue and mystery, one lets it go because the focus of the story is the mysteries that are solved and the relationship between the powerful consort and the emperor, exploring their complex personalities and how their duties clash with their desires, which I cannot deny moved me. On the other hand, there is a character that I loved, Xingxing is like a golden chicken, funny-looking and usually warns when someone approaches the crow consort's residence, but she is also the one who chooses the next Crow Consort and acts as her relative.
In addition to introducing us to the relationship and history of Emperor Xia Gaojun and the crow consort, they also tell us about the secondary characters, showing us how dark the world can be and how often, after death, some people remain wandering as ghosts because they have unfinished business.
On the other hand, even though there is mystery present, Koukyuu no Karasu takes the opportunity to touch on profound themes such as responsibility, sacrifice, and freedom. As for the opening and ending themes, they convey a lot; I couldn't help but feel that the voice of the opening theme singer was the same as one of the opening themes of Kuroshitsuji, but I actually liked the ending theme much more, as I felt it was very related to the life of the crow consort.
In the anime, it is clear that there is a romantic interest between the raven consort and the emperor; he openly brings it up in the first few episodes, but then they focus on a friendship, although there is undoubtedly a platonic love between them. It is something latent in the story, which unfortunately is not fully developed in the anime, as it only has 13 episodes. In other words, it did not fully develop the light novel that inspired it, so to find out the ending, you have to read it or search for information about it on the internet, as the ending of the anime is open.
In short, The Raven of the Inner Palace is an interesting option for those of us who enjoy anime set in historical periods. To date, it is not known whether the anime will continue, but knowing that it is from 2022, it is likely that we will not see any more animation, which is a shame, as we would all have liked to see more of this charismatic couple and those around them. I give this anime a 7.5/10.

Este anime narra la historia de una consorte especial que, aun cuando vive en el palacio interior, no se espera que cumpla con los deberes nocturnos habituales y no se arrodilla ante el emperador, siendo una figura enigmática. A esta consorte se le conoce como la consorte cuervo.
Como es de esperarse, alrededor de este anime hay intrigas palaciegas en torno al emperador, quien ha logrado recuperar su trono de manos de la emperatriz viuda, quien mató a su madre y lo desheredó.
Al ser el palacio interior un lugar en el que se han vivido tantas intrigas y traiciones, hay muchos fantasmas, por lo que el emperador en persona comienza a visitar a la consorte cuervo, lo que les lleva a un acercamiento que lo cambia todo.
Un anime de corte histórico es perfecto para introducir historias de fantasía y aquí lo hacen narrándonos la historia de la dinastía anterior, a la cual pertenece la consorte, y las razones por las cuales ella se esconde.
La consorte cuervo, cuyo nombre es Shouxue es una hermosa joven de 16 años. Debo decir que en su animacion se esmeraron al hacerle un hermoso tocado que a mí me parece uno de sus principales atractivos; además, en sus horquillas tenían como cascabeles o algo que emitía un sonido al mover su cabeza; sin olvidar el color que le dan a sus ojos, lo que la hace interesante.
La animación no es algo encantador o que deslumbre, pero al ser una historia llena de intrigas y misterios, uno lo deja pasar porque el centro de la historia son los misterios que se resuelven y la relación entre la poderosa consorte y el emperador, explorando sus personalidades complejas y cómo sus deberes chocan con sus deseos, lo cual no puedo negar que me conmovió. Por otra parte, hay un personaje que me encantó, Xingxing es como un pollo dorado, de aspecto gracioso y que suele avisar cuando alguien se acerca a la residencia de la consorte cuervo, pero también es quien elige a la próxima Consorte Cuervo y actúa como su familiar.
Además de presentarnos la relación e historia del emperador Xia Gaojun y la consorte cuervo, también nos narran las de personajes secundarios, mostrándonos lo oscuro que puede ser el mundo y cómo muchas veces, tras morir, algunas personas quedan vagando como fantasmas al tener asuntos inconclusos.
Por otro lado, aun cuando hay misterio presente, Koukyuu no Karasu aprovecha para tocar temas profundos como la responsabilidad, el sacrificio y la libertad. En cuanto a sus openig y ending transmiten mucho; no pude evitar sentir que la voz del intérprete del opening era la misma de alguno de los openig de Kuroshitsuji, pero en realidad su ending me gustó mucho más, ya que sentí que se relacionaba mucho con la vida del consorte cuervo.
En el anime se hace notorio que existe un interés romántico entre la consorte cuervo y el emperador; él lo llega a plantear en los primeros capítulos abiertamente, pero luego se centran en una amistad, pero sin duda hay un amor platónico entre ambos; es algo latente en la historia, que lamentablemente no se logra desarrollar por completo en el anime, ya que solo tiene 13 capítulos, es decir, no llegó a desarrollar por completo la novela ligera de donde se inspiró, por lo que para conocer el final hay que leerla o buscar información al respecto en internet, ya que el final del anime es abierto.
En resumen, El cuervo del Palacio Interior es una interesante opción para los que disfrutamos de animes ambientados en épocas históricas. Hasta la fecha no se conoce si el anime continuará, pero conociendo que es de 2022, es probable que no veamos más animación, lo que es una lástima, pues todos hubiéramos deseado ver más de esta carismática pareja y los que les rodean. Yo le doy a este anime un 7.5/ 10.
