Winter Feast
After finishing my morning work, I went for a walk with my husband and our dog. I haven’t seen much sunlight for many weeks now. I miss it very much. I’m taking vitamin D, but I really need real sunshine.
We went to the park. The lake there was half frozen. The line where the water wasn’t frozen looked so beautiful. This lake will be completely frozen during the coldest month. Usually, in December, it freezes and defrosts several times before it becomes totally frozen.
At the edge of the lake, there is a small creek. In winter, we can cross the creek on the ice. In summer, we have to go around it, but in winter, we can take a shortcut. We have to be careful when crossing, because the creek was also a bit melted.
My dog was brave enough to cross the creek, even though he doesn’t swim. He usually doesn’t go near water, but he loves frozen ice and snow very much. No worries! This creek is very shallow. It looked like many people and dogs had crossed there already.
I saw a pretty short video on social media the other day. There was a dog stand that held several sticks. Dogs picked their favourite sticks to carry and play with, and after playing, they put the sticks back.
Those sticks looked like very solid branches. My dog also loves carrying sticks, so he would love to join that game.
My husband cooked tandoori chicken the other day when he was off work. I don’t need to cook when he has a day off! He bought a special spice and used it to marinate the chicken. The spices, yogurt, and lemon flavour were so good. They went well with onions and paprika.
Especially during dark and cloudy winter days, I crave chocolate. I mean, I love chocolate all year round, but in the cold winter, I want it even more. In my original language, we don’t really use the word “candy,” so I tend to say chocolate. However, this super attractive candy box called Quality Street is full of sweets, including chocolate, caramel, nougat, and fudge.
Look at this octagon-shaped can! How pretty it is! And the colour of the can, too. There is everyone’s dream inside.
When I worked at schools, staff usually brought snacks to the staff table in the staff room. Everyone shared nice sweets sometimes. I brought cookies before. When I put a cookie box on the table in the morning, almost all the cookies were gone by the time my morning shift ended around noon. I knew it would happen. Before noon, around 10–11 am, everyone feels a bit hungry, so quick sweets are very helpful.
I imagine putting this pretty can full of candies there, and I’m sure it would disappear very quickly. I can’t stop peeking into this can. My husband is already thinking about keeping it and using it for his hobby. I don’t keep these types of boxes anymore, because I try to live as minimally as possible. My husband does not. He’s like a squirrel. I guess this will soon end up in his man cave.

冬のご馳走
朝の仕事を終えたあと、主人と犬と一緒に散歩に出かけました。ここ何週間も、まともな日差しを見ていません。太陽が見たいです。ビタミンDはとるようにしていますが、やっぱり本物の太陽の光が必要だと感じます。
公園へ行くと、湖は半分ほど凍っていて、凍っていない部分の水面のラインがとてもきれいでした。この湖は、いちばん寒い時期には完全に凍ります。例年１２月は、凍ったり溶けたりを繰り返しながら、やがて全面が凍っていきます。
湖の端には小さな小川があります。冬は氷の上を渡ってこの小川を越えることができます。夏は遠回りしなければなりませんが、冬はこうして近道ができます。ただ、小川も少し溶けていたので、渡るときは注意が必要でした。
うちの犬は泳げないのに、勇敢に小川を渡っていきました。普段は水に近づきたがらないのですが、凍った氷や雪はとても好きです。心配はいりません、この小川はとても浅いです。たくさんの人や犬が、ここを渡ってきたようでした。
最近、SNSでとても可愛らしいショート動画を見ました。そこには、何本かの棒が置いてある犬用のスタンドが映っていました。犬たちは好きな棒を選んで運んだり遊んだりして、遊び終わると元の場所に戻していました。
その棒は、とても丈夫そうな枝でした。うちの犬も棒を運ぶのが大好きなので、きっとその遊びに参加したがると思います。
先日、主人が休みの日にタンドリーチキンを作ってくれました。休みの日は、私は料理をしなくていいのです。特別なスパイスを買ってきて、鶏肉を漬け込んでいました。スパイスとヨーグルト、レモンの風味がとてもよく、玉ねぎやパプリカとも相性抜群でした。
特に暗くて曇りがちな冬の日は、チョコレートが無性に食べたくなります。もちろん一年中チョコレートは好きですが、寒い冬には特に欲しくなります。私の母語ではキャンディという言い方をあまりしないので、ついチョコレートと言ってしまいます。でも、「クオリティ・ストリート」というとても魅力的なお菓子の箱には、チョコレートだけでなく、キャラメルやヌガー、ファッジなど、いろいろなお菓子が詰まっています。
この八角形の缶、なんて可愛いのでしょう。缶の色合いも素敵です。中には、みんなの夢が詰まっています。
学校で働いていた頃、職員室のテーブルには、先生やスタッフがよくお菓子を持ち寄っていました。ときどき、みんなで甘いものを分け合っていました。私もクッキーを持っていったことがあります。朝、テーブルにクッキーの箱を置くと、お昼頃、朝の勤務が終わる頃には、ほとんどなくなっていました。予想どおりです。午前１０時から１１時頃は、みんなが少し小腹が空く時間なので、さっと食べられる甘いものはとても助かります。
この可愛い缶いっぱいにお菓子を入れて置いたら、きっとあっという間になくなるでしょう。私はつい、ちょくちょくこの缶をのぞいてしまいます。主人はすでに、この缶を自分の趣味用に取っておこうと狙っています。私はなるべく物を持たない暮らしを心がけているので、こういう缶はもう取っておきません。でも主人は違います。まるでリスのようです。この缶も、近いうちに彼のマンケイブに行くことになりそうです。
