Hivechess Tournament Round 7: @tungphong and @zacherybinx were the winners!

in The Chess Community3 years ago (edited)

Dear Chess fans,

the 7th round of Season 9 was a "2x" one, with 2 parallel 4+1 arenas, divided by rating levels. In total we were 26 players. The 2100+ one had 11 players with an average rating of insane 2264(!), while in the <2100 one there were 15 players participating with an average rating of 1650. Newly to Hivechess joined @wildthougts from Nigeria - a warm welcome!

No surprise - @tungphong (blackswan21) won the 2100+ tournament yet again, 2 points ahead of @eniolw. @pamboy27 ended up as third and @jaki01 as fourth. Congrats to All - it was for sure a very tough tournament and I hope you were a little challenged!

In the <2100 tournament @zacherybinx (sirtetris) was a class on his own! He won with a huge lead of 11 points to the runner-up, myself. Third was @sammy00 (migmag) with a strong performance, followed by @rosmarly as fourth. Congratulations!

In my game against @rosmarly, I (with the Black pieces) had put my Queen in a hardly promising excursion to h4. White challenged her, but not with Qe1, as suggested by the engine, but by putting the Rook from f5 to h5, which gave up the protection of the f2 field. I couldn´t resist and after Qf2+ Kh1, my second Knight joined the party with Nf4, threatening both mate on g2 and the Rook on h5. After a few moves the Rook was gone and White resigned.

@giacomone (KingJames4) had streamed it here.

Of note, due to the different no. of players in the 2 tournaments, there was an imbalance in the points distributed. In the 2100+ one the best player got 22 points while in the other one the best player got 30 points. I could have only corrected this by not doubling the places in both tournament, but multiplying in one case with 1,5 and in the other one with 2,5 or so, but this would have created decimal numbers instead of integers. To mitigate this I will next round create again 2 parallel tournaments, but this time with 1900 rating as treshold, so that the 1900+ group would be (if the same players participate) 14 and the other group 12. Of course no guarantee that this will work, but I see no easy way to fix this imbalance other than to deviate from the Lighteye system (which would be the plan B if the imbalance is similar like in this round).

The rules you can look up in the announcement post.

In the race for the runner-up, @pamboy27 could close the gap to @jaki01 and is now ex aequo in points with him. @eniolw could overtake @samostically and is now fourth, only 4 points behind the 2nd/3rd.
Biggest mover was @zacherybinx (sirtetris) with his 30 points gain which brought him to rank 13 (plus 9 ranks), made with playing 3 rounds only!

See you all next week for the final showdown of S9! This will be a double round with 3 tournaments in total (otherwise the last round would have fallen on the 24th Dec!). So better not miss out!

image.png

Last week I had asked you, if Nepo can recover from the hit of round 6. In the meantime that question was answered by himself. Unfortunately he didn´t recover and throughout the rest of the match he didn´t find to his excellent performance of the first 5 rounds where he could create some advantages (which he later missed to convert). What a shame! I hope he can get over it some day.

Sort:

I enjoyed the event strength but I'm far from my home so I knew I wouldn't perform very well and also stream too. For the points system, I agree with @tungphong, it a bit not suited for our category. even with the coefficient, It still wouldn't be equal , so I suggest a separate scoring system only for the special rating event. or separate tournament with prizes that doesn't affect the main event.

It is just one round of 9, it won´t affect the overall results.

i agreed. althought as a winner, i feel it still wouldnt be equal when compare quantity with quality. so i suggest recalculate point system in this case!!

oh! when we divide the tournament into 2 groups, we must set the coefficient like group 2100+ (A) with x2 and group <2100 (B) with just x1 if the players two group the same, if the B players more x1.5 with A players (15>10) then can set 1.5 coefficient points for B . How can the winner of group B can take 30 points, more winner of group A 8 points. Thats unfair!

Indeed it is. That´s why next round I hope more players are in the upper group.
On the other hand, one could argue, it is more difficult to be best from 15 players than best from 11 players.

Did Lichess delete extra points for series of wins?

Since October, Blurt is becoming stronger. Maybe You and @schamangerbert can paste post to Blurt too and we all earn also Blurt on playing chess? Or I can do that if You dont have time.

I don't like HIVE as it is a top witness oligarchy, but I think if at all HIVE has more potential than Blurt or STEEM as more development is taking place there, and in addition it is connected with Splinterlands.

I hope a social network will be created sooner or later on Cardano or Solana (or the rich Splinterlands players will take over HIVE in future and make it a more peaceful place). :)

i agreed, i heard that solano is investing 100M$ into social system, with fasting transactions, they will lead soon.

Steem is dead as almost noone outside China wants quasi decentralised bit practically centralised social network. Blurt did good move by deleting negative votes, therefore whales cannot "cancel" small players.

In my opinion to delete flags completely encourages plagiarism and farming.

The problem of HIVE is that a big part of the downvotes are retaliation, "I don't like your opinion" or "I won't allow you to upvote comments [or anything else] while I myself am a whale and can do automated curation sniping as well as publishing one shit post every day without getting punished."

STEEM is dead apart from the great but very small DU (Deutsch Unplugged) communty of @chriddi. :)

Hive is going on the way like Blog yahoo360. They setup base on decentralized system but they create more power for whale-hiver and abuse its. that seems i had more money so more power

How will Solana or Cardano solve these problems?

How can you think there wouldn't be other ways to create a social network than it's done here on HIVE, where an oligarchy of early miners and former bid bot owners (plus some HIVE chillers) dominate a centralized platform?

There are interesting ideas ... read for example here.

The experience of the community is valuable.

Cardano and Solana also have big communities which are valuable as well. Cardano is far less centralized than HIVE.
HIVE is partly just toxic. Top witnesses delegate their stakes to each other and their sock puppet accounts, borrow each other their posting keys to hide their actions, vote each other for witnesses and mutually support their proposals ...

I should add that also Splinterlands is far more decentralized than HIVE itself, with many different stake holders (who really bought their stakes), and I really hope that either the Splinterlands community will get more and more influence on this platform or just fork in future.

Yes, I unselect the option for winning streaks, as this adds an element of luck.

I am not on Blurt, I don´t like this habit of posting content on several chains, because I don´t want to support the competitors.

Ok... it wasn't my day i almost lost everything xd but I dig you split it in two groups, I'm looking forward to play the next round and improve my results

I am sure you will play better again!

By the way, do you know what happened to @sawko and zulukill?

I don't know anything about zulukill, but my brother @sawko is working at that time so it's a bit difficult for him to play the tournaments, also he is very busy giving chess lessons online and that takes lot of time you know

In the <2100 tournament @zacherybinx (sirtetris) was a class on his own!

Looking at the results, it seems he and you were a class on your own ... You also won a lot of games and only lost one.

In the race for the runner-up, @pamboy27 could close the gap to @jaki01 and is now ex aequo in points with him.

Considering his rating of amazing 22222 (according to the table) that's not really surprising. :-)

LOL, will be corrected!

я играю по несколько турниров каждый день, но если подряд - это напрягает.I play several tournaments every day, but if in a row it's annoying.
Пусть будет по часу между турами или в любой другой деньLet there be an hour break between rounds or on any other day

Agreed! We can start a little earlier and do a break.

I enjoyed the tournament as always, in our game those horses God I had a blurred vision haha thanks for that game.

congrats all
it was fun

You did very well!

Interesting experiment. I guess we already have some results and things to learn. It was fun to play.

Thank you! @stayoutoftherz. Really nice tournament. I'd say the field was really strong, stronger than I'd expected. I was beaten blue black 😂. Looking forward to the next round though 💪

¡Enhorabuena!
