Ask VN Den Week #2: What platforms do you play Visual Novels on?

in The Visual Novel Den7 months ago (edited)

Hey y’all. Hope everyone’s doing well. I'm doing great myself.

Platforms are your hardware. Examples would be your computer or your Nintendo DS. If you use emulation or run the game using community made hacks, you can share those here.

Rules for posting (taking heavy inspiration from C/The Anime Realm with this; go follow them):

  1. Keep your submissions at no more than 6 sentences; a paragraph should be plenty to make your point without going too heavily into spoilers or full synopsis territory
  2. Respond to at least one other reply to start discussion about what was posted; try to make this as thoughtful as your own submissions
  3. Avoid major spoilers in your submissions; spoiler tag your replies if you're going to talk about details that could be problematic for other people
  4. All of the rules for the community apply and new full posts aren't required as an answer

I currently primarily play on my iPad, my Nintendo DS and my computer which now runs FreeBSD. Most Visual Novels for Windows will work on FreeBSD and Linux without too many issues when running in WINE but sometimes older ones with custom engines or newer Unity-based ones can require special tweaks to get going. There are a small handful that won't run at all but most are solid, especially those made with Ren'Py or Tyrano Builder. I haven't found too many mobile ones that I enjoy so far, though.
