I've been thinking a lot lately about what will happen when I become an elderly person. I wish I could stay in the house I am living in now and continue with my current lifestyle, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that eventually I will have to live in an apartment complex where the rent is cheaper. Or a group home, or a nursing home.

If I go to a facility for the elderly, I will have to keep my belongings to a minimum. What should I do with my many paintings? What should I do with my painting materials? I can't imagine my life without painting. I would like to paint until I die, but is that too difficult?

最近高齢者になった時のことをよく考える。今住んでいる家に住み、今の生活を続けられればいいけれど、そういうわけにもいかないみたいだ。いずれはもっと家賃の安い、集合住宅に住まなければいけないみたいだ。あるいはグループホームか、老人ホームか。

いわゆる高齢者向けの施設に入るなら、荷物は最低限にしなければならない。私が描いたたくさんの絵はどうすればいいのだろう。画材はどうすればいいのだろう。絵を描かない生活など考えられない。私は死ぬまで絵を描いていたいのだが、それは難しいのだろうか。
