En tipografía, el espacio vacío dentro de un caracter. Puede ser abierta (inglés: aperture) o cerrada (inglés: counter). También se llama "contrapunzón".

The counter-shapes or punches in typography. In typography, the empty space within a character. It can be open (English: aperture) or closed (English: counter). Also called "counter punch".

Es por ello que en el diseño de tipografías o creación e letras debemos muchas veces corregir de forma gráfica aquellas ilusiones ópticas que distorsionan la armonía de la geometría ideal. Nuestra percepción sensible, óptica y estética, es mucho más compleja que la construcción geométrica, y es a ella a la que debemos recurrir al buscar el equilibrio entre el blanco y el negro y entre las formas.

That is why in the design of typographies or creation and letters we must often correct graphically those optical illusions that distort the harmony of the ideal geometry. Our sensitive, optical and aesthetic perception is much more complex than the geometric construction, and it is to it that we must resort when looking for the balance between black and white and between shapes.
