Call of Dust: The Arat Series book 1

in OnChainArt4 years ago

Hi all!

This is Call of Dust, a book cover I made for writer Mark Saint earlier this year.
Unlike other times I don't know a lot about this novel, but it happens in a world where classical fantasy and Call of Cthulhu myths merge together.

More info on the plot can be found on the back text. This is an expansive world and more novels are to follow.

Unfortunately I did work a bit chaotically and didn't make a process animation for this one.
Both the dragon and the man were rendered in Daz Studio and everything else was taken from real photos.

These are the renders I used, I didn't modify them all that much except for I made the guy much more buffed and his pose more aggressive:

I don't generally show these cause they look really crappy but since there's no process... here are the two sketches I made. The first one was rejected (I really kinda like the scene higher up there) and the second of course was the one I used and where I started from.

Cool! I'll use elements like this in the future too.
I always thought it was cheating but I think I'll start to change my mind about it.

Hehe it is in a way cheating I guess. Real good artists use photos and 3D to create things faster than if they had to do it by hand, I use them as a crutch cause I can't draw all that well.

I try to put time into learning how to draw/paint on the side, but I'm also trapped in the cycle of needing to finish work for clients no matter what. xD

This is really awesome! :D

Glad you think so, thank you!

This is insaaaane! I thought the last one was already really epic, but MAN you're full of surprises!

:D I'm glad you enjoyed it. Most of the time it's hard for me to tell apart the works people will like and those they won't so much. Thank you!

Excellent! Good job.

Thanks a lot! :D

Imagine a video game (for example a role playing game) or a movie with all of this. The places, the events, the characters. Everything. I would play both with the man and with the dragon.

:D Ah I would play as the dragon, if only for novelty's sake.... and so I can kill more people. :D
Glad you liked it!
