Pencil portraits are not my specialty, but lately I've mostly been drawing portraits using the oil on canvas technique. But since I don't always have time to draw on canvas, I often draw a pencil drawing as a gift.
To draw these portrait, I use several different pencils, from HB to 8B, from the thinnest to the one that makes the darkest shades, which I mainly use for some stronger tones and shadows.
This drawing started with a sketch made with an HB pencil, with which I wanted to draw some basic lines that I could later erase if necessary.
I continued with the 2B pencil some lighter shading and as time went on, I used more and more softer and thicker pencils until I reached the boy's hair, which I did with the 8B pencil, considering that it is the darkest part of the drawing.
As for the materials, I also used handkerchiefs and ear sticks for the smallest details, because they make it much easier to shade small areas.
As last time, I started with some details, drawing sweatshirts, vests... and I left the head for the end as the most difficult part of the picture.
This boy has a very distinctive face, so drawing him was a little easier than drawing some of my other portraits.
If you had only seen me a year ago, then no one could have persuaded me to draw a portrait, it was an impossible mission for me and I avoided it as much as possible. When I started making portraits as gifts for my relatives, that's when I relaxed and started making portraits and I'm very happy that I found myself in that kind of art as well.
I hope you'll like this new drawing too. I look forward to hear your comments.
I am attaching an original picture that you can compare with my drawing.
