Fractal Frenzy - a sudden inspiration

in #art3 years ago

Hi guys!

Last time I posted here I was at the beginning of a big project that was supposed to be finished in February this year. Quickly I realized that the amount of work was simply overwhelming and the workflow was not as good as planned so after finishing 13 of 78 cards the case was closed and the project is dead until the court decides what will be next. Hopefully, I'll be able to share the work I've done in the months ahead (lawfully the project is now mine because of canceling of the deal but I'm not 100% aware of the details so it would be wise of me not to share it yet).

Of course, it all costs me a great deal of stress and I'm a bit anxious about the outcome but hey! It's not the end of the world and there's a good thing - time and space for more personal art.

My daily basis now is involved with canvas, brushes, and acrylic paint... and I love it! Sometimes I get bored with applying strokes and unconsciously I'm looking forward to starting some new project or just using other tools freely.

I was looking at the photos I captured with my phone and I felt a sudden urge to check different approaches to visual art.

This stunning tree was captured last year on a field trip. I looked at it and immediately I realized that its form is almost abstract. I did not think about it at all but I opened a soft for graphics and started to play with the shapes. The outcome was something DIFFERENT

I leave a space for interpretation to you but it hits me hard and it's trippy no matter which way you look at it. The human form pops out from the image and I tried to do the same thing with another picture but the final result was way too blurry for me and I dropped it. I also tried to crop it differently and the result is more organic, still cool I guess.

Another day I tried a picture of a lizard I took 3 years ago:

Results below:

Personally, it remains me of the Islamic culture and the great art of mosques. The form is highly decorative so I thought of some use for it and started printing

In a meantime, I discovered some of my old work - a fractal that was drawn (not photo manipulated as those above) and I also cropped and printed it:

(behind the scenes you can see a fragment of canvas I'm working on)

So I stayed with a bunch of random colorful circles...
I glued them together so each circle has 2 images within and afterward I painted the bright and saturated fractals with gold brocade to add some extra effect to it.

The gold and shiny effect is unfortunately hard to capture but it actually reflects a lot of light as the wind softly turns the prints around.
The crystals also add some nice transparent light to the whole composition. The other fractal (the lizard one) has a labradorite bead attached to it but I'm not sure if it's the final form.

I have way much more ideas than I have the time and energy to create all of them but the reflective and shiny effect has turned on my imagination and the next ones will probably be even more shiny and reflective. Sadly, my printer cannot handle the UV ink...

Still, the whole process had a lovely calming effect on me and it turned on to be quite a nice decorative form for my apartment. I don't know if the avocado tree that supports the hanging circles is glad about it's new purpose as a hanger but I hope it'll do just fine :)
