Hola gente, ¿les cuento algo? Por fìn vi Capitàn Marvel. Sì, después de 2 años de su salida, así de lento para ponerme al día soy.

La cosa es que al final me gustó bastante; no se merece un Oscar, pero me entretuvo mucho que es lo importante. Así que en un ataque de inspiración tan típico me puse manos a la obra para ilustrar a la heroína de la ocasión: Carol Danvers (quien en los comics tiene un origen sospechosamente parecido al de Green Lantern).

Hello people, can I tell you something? I finally watched Captain Marvel. Yes, after 2 years of the movie's release, I am slow to catch up.
The thing is, in the end I liked it quite a lot; It does not deserve an Oscar, but it entertained me, which is the important thing. So in such a typical hit of inspiration I got to work to illustrate the heroine of the occasion: Carol Danvers (who in the comics has a suspiciously similar origin story to Green Lantern).

Como siempre, el primer paso es DIBUJAR todo en tradicional primero porque, de nuevo: no tengo una tablet.

As always, the first step is to DRAW the thing in traditional because again: I don't have a tablet.

El segundo paso fue hacer el lineart y solucionar algunos problemas. Si analizan el lineart y el dibujo tradicional, probablemente verán algunos cambios, menores, pero cambios de todos modos; un ejemplo de eso sería la forma ligeramente diferente de los ojos.

The Second Step was to make the lineart and fix some problems. If you analyze the lineart and the traditional drawing you’ll likely spot some changes, minor, but changes nonetheless; an example of that would be the slightly different shape of the eyes.

Vamos con la parte de elegir la paleta de colores y pintar todo con colores base.

This is the part of choosing the color palette and painting everything with base colors.

Adivinen lo que hice a continuación:
Demasiado tarde, es la luz de la mano; de esa manera sería más fácil ver dónde rebotaría la iluminación.
Usé una superposición de degradado radial para que pareciera luz real.

Guess what I did next:
Too late, it was the hand’s light; that way it was going to be easier to see where the lighting would bounce.
I used a radial gradient overlay to make it look like actual light.

Estudiar es parte del arte, con eso en mente, probé una forma diferente de sombreado: escala de grises. Consiste en enfocarte solo en los valores en lugar de en la teoría del color al principio y colorear al final.

Spoiler: Aunque funciona, prefiero trabajar con color durante todo el proceso, pero fue genial ver que tanto lucìa como un personaje en 3D en escala de grises.

Studying is part of art, with that in mind a tried a different way of shading: Grayscale. It consists in you focusing just in the values instead of the color theory at the beginning, and coloring at the end.
Spoiler: Though it works, I prefer working with color during the whole process, but it was cool to see how much it resembled a 3D character in grayscale.

No pueden decirme que el sombreado no se ve muy bien en gris.
A la mano no le hice sombra por flojo y porque lo olvidé xD, porque la luz viene de adentro. Las líneas harán el truco.

You can’t tell me the shading doesn’t look great in gray.
I didn't shade the hand because I'm lazy and I forgot lol, The lines will do the trick.

Básicamente, esta sería la luz (podría ser mejor, pero esto es lo más lejos que puedo llegar con mi conocimiento actual).

Basically, this would be the light (it could be better, but this is as far as I can get with my current knowledge).

Está mejorando.

No debería usar el color para nada hasta el final, lo que pasa es que me aburrí y el arte no debería ser aburrido

I shouldn’t use color at all until the end, the thing is that I got bored, and art shouldn’t be boring

Dejenme decirles que casi olvido los ojos.

Let me tell you that I almost forgot the eyes.

Se veía un poco pálida, así que le pinté un poco de rubor en la cara.
Miren cómo se ve sin las sombras.

She looked a little pale, so I painted some blush on her face.
Look how It looks without the shadows.

Y pinté el lineart para acentuar la luz.

And I painted the lineart to accentuate the light.

Blur gausiano, oh sí.

Gaussian Blur, oh yeah.

Algunos cambios aquí y allá en el cabello con “Liquify”; estaba ... raro.

Some changes here and there on the hair with “Liquify”.

Cambiando las "curvas", modifiqué el contraste hasta el punto en que se veía listo.

Changing the “curves”, I modified the contrast to the point it looked ready.

¿Te gustó Capitán Marvel? ¿O quizá no te gusta Marvel en general?

Nunca entenderé como a algunas personas NO les gustan las películas de Marvel.
