I painted the first small version of "Realignment" in 2007 after experimenting with randomly distributed cubic structures in 3ds max. Here are some test renderings for the reference I later used for the painting.
A photo of the first small version in its frame:
Realignment, 2007
Acrylic on fiberboard
25 x 20 cm / 9.84 x 7.87 in
Here is the large version from 2013 which I still consider as one of my best pieces:
Realignment II, 2013
Acrylic on canvas
120 x 100 cm / 47.24 x 39.37 in
And here is an ink drawing based on these 3D concepts:
Realignment 2012-11-11
Ink on Arches Aquarell Paper
33 x 25.5 cm / 12.99 x 10.04 in
It's both amusing and amazing how the medium can change the perception of the image. With the 3d ones I can "hear" the cubes coming together in my head (even though I have no idea what noise they should be making as I can't determine the material they're supposed to be made of). Meanwhile the ink drawing just looks really cool and surreal.
