Daily Painting #21 — Yep… Another Sky Study (Sorry / Not Sorry)
Ok folks… here we go again.
And YES it IS another sky study — sorry / not sorry.
BUT this will be a quick post today because it is hella busy with dancing stuff.
in fact quickest post of this month long challenge i think... ( i did warn you it was bad weekend)
AND to top it all off… I have somehow found myself helping organise the ballet studio fundraiser to Wicked at 9am in the morning, BEFORE the singing showcase that I’m also running the canteen for.
PLUS I’m taking along another student or two because… well… one mum has a migraine and the other is working, so here we are.
Life. 😂
Anyway — here’s today’s painting!

🎨 Colours (full list for the palette today)
Blues
- Cobalt Blue
- Ultramarine Blue
Reds
- Cad Red Light
- Napthol Crimson
- Quinacridone Magenta
Yellows
- Cad Yellow Medium
- Cad Yellow Light
Earths
- Burnt Sienna
- Raw Sienna
- Raw Umber
- Burnt Umber
Others
- Dioxazine Purple
- Phthalo Green
- Titanium White
- Black (yes, I actually used black again 😅)

🎨 Method
Pretty much the same as the last two (I promise I’ll vary it up soon).
1. Background
A warm sienna wash over the whole canvas.
2. Sky
- Started with blue first:
Cobalt Blue + a touch of Burnt Sienna + White
to knock back the saturation. - Then the yellows from the horizon upward, being VERY cautious about the dreaded
“let’s not make it green” line. - A tiny bit more cool yellow in the horizon today for variation.
3. Foreground
Not the object of the study… but there it is.
A simple warm silhouette with hints of green and shadows to anchor the composition.

Life Updates
The singing showcase is tomorrow, and while I am posting this, I should be:
- gem-stoning a costume
- packing the car
- organising snacks for the canteen
- or doing a hundred other things
…but instead, here I am writing this post i think... any way... yikes.
Classic me.
Anyway, better dash —
I have a date with a new bottle of spiced rum and OMG it’s delicious.

Its always that way. If you are a reliable car pool option, there are always parents that will take advantage 🤦
lol.... my car is always full if i think they are "taking advantages" lol :-)
I like this one, and I'm not sure if it's cause I noticed you're australian the other day when i followed you or if I would've thought of that anyway when i first saw it, but yeah, quite an aussie vibe to it!
Morning, we get some wicked skies here in Queensland that is for sure. however just woken this morning to ripping thunder and lightening... looks like i will be adding "pool backwash" to my busy day... sigh...
Glad you like the sky study... they are super fun to do. Much easier where you have done a few in a row as well. Thanks for stopping by the blog! Hopefully i get a post in today with the busy day ahead... yikes.
