I always had an issue completing an art project that included a skull as the primary focal point of the piece. Could never get the head perfectly round enough, or any of the features to the depth or width I wanted exactly. A lot of times, I would draw the skull missing its jaw or having huge cracks in it, just to compensate for the fact that I didn't think I could draw one perfectly. Even with the advent of advanced software as means for a canvas, it seemed as though I was chasing a ghost dragon, trying to find perfection where it could not be found.

And, when I say "draw one perfectly" , obviously I am not referring to art that's geometric attributes were created through the assistance of such software. I mean by my own hand. Eyeballing it, the old fashioned way. That's why I always use imperfections in my skull art. Because I could never get it perfect. If the piece itself has its own inherent "flaws" , it carries the implication that those flaws were crafted intentionally by the artist for aesthetic purposes. Having a penchant for the Japanese art of Wabi Sabi, this approach to drawing skulls suits, what I see as, my failures and limitations as an artist. Also speaking honestly, it is much easier to design a piece that appears as though it was never meant to be perfect.

Including a simple, "artistic shield", as I like to call it, such as sunglasses, a wig, even just a skewed perspective, would partially alleviate my concerns of any vertice that appeared misaligned or malformed. In my OCD addled mind, the viewer's attention is drawn towards the intentionally positioned apron, instead of any perceived geometrical defect or inconsistency within the piece. "Razzle dazzle" so to speak. Case in point:

Then yesterday, I finally had a breakthrough. Typically I do not share any art before I finish it. But I am making an exception for this skull because I feel as though, while it is not completed, it is the most perfect skull I have ever drawn:
