In den vergangenen Jahren hatte ich bereits zweimal das Vergnügen in eine Welt, wo das Hauptverkehrsmittel nicht Auto und Mototrrad sind, einzutauchen. Dies weil das riesige Gebiet am grossen Fluss, mit seinen unzähligen Nebenarmen immernoch kleine und grosse Dörfer beheimatet, die kaum auf dem Landweg zu erreichen sind. Da sind das Kanu, Pirogen und motorisierte Boote die Hauptverkehrsmittel.
In the past few years, I have already had the pleasure of immersing myself twice in a world where the main means of transport are not cars and motorbikes. This is because the huge area along the big river, with its countless tributaries, is still home to small and large villages that can hardly be reached by land. Canoes, pirogues and motorised boats are the main means of transport.
En los últimos años, ya he tenido el placer de sumergirme dos veces en un mundo en el que los principales medios de transporte no son los coches ni las motos. Esto se debe a que la inmensa zona a lo largo del gran río, con sus innumerables afluentes, sigue albergando pequeños y grandes pueblos a los que apenas se puede llegar por tierra. Las canoas, las piraguas y las embarcaciones a motor son los principales medios de transporte.
Das erste Mal hat mich einer meiner Arbeitsverträge auf dem Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiff MS Bremen den Amazonas flussaufwärts geführt. Die Reise hat uns von Bélèm (Brasilien) durch die Breveskanäle, vorbei an Manaus (Brasilien) und Laetitia (Kolumbien) bis hoch nach Iquitos (Peru) geführt. In den ersten zwei Nächten konnte ich kaum schlafen, weil mir die Dünung der offenen See (wie das Schaukeln in der Wiege als Kleinkkind) fehlte. Doch die Reise durch den riesigen Dschungel war grandios. In jeder freien Minute habe ich das menschliche Treiben auf dem Fluss und die vorbeiziehende Uferregion mit ihren gigantischen Bäumen und ihrer wundervollen Tierwelt beobachtet. In den Arbeitspausen konnten wir auch im Amazonas schwimmen gehen, an kurzen Ausflügen auf Nebenarmen oder an kurzen Ausflügen teilnehmen. Auch wurde ein Dragonbboat-Rennen veramstaltet, an dem die Gäste des Schiffes sowie die Crew teilnehmen konnten.
For the first time, one of my work contracts took me upstream the Amazon on the expedition cruise ship MS Bremen. The journey took us from Bélèm (Brazil) through the Breves Canals, past Manaus (Brazil) and Laetitia (Colombia) up to Iquitos (Peru). The first two nights I could hardly sleep because I missed the swell of the open sea (like rocking in the cradle as a toddler). But the journey through the vast jungle was magnificent. In every free minute I watched the human bustle on the river and the passing shore region with its gigantic trees and wonderful wildlife. During the work breaks, we were also able to go swimming in the Amazon, take part in short trips on tributaries or short excursions. A dragon boat race was also organised, in which the guests of the ship as well as the crew could participate.
Por primera vez, uno de mis contratos de trabajo me llevó río arriba por el Amazonas en el crucero de expedición MS Bremen. El viaje nos llevó desde Bélèm (Brasil) a través de los canales de Breves, pasando por Manaos (Brasil) y Laetitia (Colombia) hasta Iquitos (Perú). Las dos primeras noches apenas pude dormir porque echaba de menos el oleaje del mar abierto (como el balanceo en la cuna de un niño pequeño). Pero el viaje a través de la inmensa selva fue magnífico. En cada minuto libre observaba el bullicio humano en el río y la región de la orilla que pasaba, con sus gigantescos árboles y su maravillosa fauna. Durante las pausas de trabajo también podíamos ir a nadar al Amazonas, participar en viajes cortos por los afluentes o en excursiones cortas. También se organizó una carrera de botes dragón, en la que pudieron participar tanto los huéspedes del barco como la tripulación.
Ein Jahr später, während meiner 8-monatigen Südamerikareise, wollte ich nochmals auf dem grossen Fluss verweilen. Und dies ganz ohne Arbeit. Diesmal bin ich aber weiter flussaufwärts in Yurimaguas (Peru) auf ein Schiff aufgestiegen. Nicht ein Schiff mit Luxus und viel bezahlenden Gästen, sondern ein lokales Boot mit ungefähr 300 Peruaner/innen. Geschlafen wurde in mitgebrachten Hängematten. Dieses Mal reiste ich mit Unterbrüchen flussabwärts über Iquitos (Peru) bis nach Laetitia (Kolumbien). Auch hatte ich viel mehr Zeit den vorbeiziehenden Dschungel zu beobachten, da ich nicht am Arbeiten war.
A year later, during my 8-month trip to South America, I wanted to stay on the big river again. And this time without any work at all. But this time I got on a boat further upstream in Yurimaguas (Peru). Not a ship with luxury and a lot of paying guests, but a local boat with about 300 Peruvians. We slept in hammocks that we had brought with us. This time I travelled downriver with interruptions via Iquitos (Peru) to Laetitia (Colombia). I also had much more time to observe the passing jungle, as I was not working.
Un año después, durante mi viaje de 8 meses por Sudamérica, quise volver a quedarme en el gran río. Y esta vez sin ningún tipo de trabajo. Pero esta vez me subí a un barco más arriba, en Yurimaguas (Perú). No se trata de un barco de lujo con muchos huéspedes de pago, sino de un barco local con unos 300 peruanos. Dormimos en las hamacas que habíamos traído. Esta vez viajé río abajo con interrupciones vía Iquitos (Perú) hasta Laetitia (Colombia). También tuve mucho más tiempo para observar el paso de la selva, ya que no estaba trabajando.
