Appreciating Nature's Beauty - My Wednesday walk

Originally, I’m very much an insider, the type that can go a whole day without setting my eyes on the sun from the moment it rises till it sets. But joining this community is slowly changing that. It’s becoming one of the reasons I actually step outside a bit more. And honestly, a few minutes of fresh air and a simple walk isn’t a bad idea at all.

Plus, since I enjoy taking pictures, it feels like this community is helping me discover a version of myself I didn’t even know existed.

So this Wednesday walk (which also happens to be my first entry) is centered around nature.

When I stepped out, I didn’t have a particular picture in mind. I wasn’t searching for anything special. But then these natural beauties kept showing up and feeding on my attention - almost as if they were calling me.

Of course, I couldn’t resist. I walked closer and captured each one with my camera.

But as soon as I got back, another thought crossed my mind, “Now that I’ve gotten close to these flowers, why not find out what they’re actually called?” So I took an extra step and did a little research, and what I found was interesting.

The first flower is called Mexican Sunflower. Information says it grows in West Africa, which honestly left me confused. Why is something that grows around us named after Mexico when it’s not even from there? 😅

The second one is Wild Dagga, also known as Lion’s Tail. It’s usually found in tropical areas, so no wonder I spotted it easily in my environment.

And the last one is Lantana Camara, extremely common here in Nigeria. You’ll often find it around open fields, roadsides, or anywhere nature decides to decorate.

That brings me to the end of today’s #wednesdaywalk.

I’m actually excited about this, and I hope to keep showing up every week with more discoveries, more pictures, and maybe even more parts of myself I didn’t know existed.
