The Rocky Walk - Glenmore to Leisure Crest via Pulpit & Ladder Rocks

in Wednesday Walklast month (edited)

Take four gals, three super fit, and one not fit at all, and send them on a walk along a pathway that winds through giant rocks, beach sand, and dune vegetation. The fourth gal that's me, slowed the others down not only because she's unfit, but she also stopped along the way to take photos.
My three friends were real stars, and super patient with the old gal!
I used to walk this pathway as a teen when we used to go on annual camping holidays at TO Strand in Leisure Bay.

Forward-wind some fifty-plus years; I was down at Glenmore Sands for a girlie weekend, and the four of us went on a 3,5-kilometre round-trip walk from Glenmore to Leisure Crest, while the other gals prepared breakfast; our shift was over so we were free to go!
A blustery wind was blowing, but that did not dampen our spirits; the sight of rocks, the 'white horses' on the sea, the sound of the waves, and the ever-changing dune vegetation was a lovely walk!

Looking at our route map, you will see how jagged the rocks are; the entire section we walked is just rocks!

I missed taking a photo of Pulpit Rock, a favourite with anglers, so I am sharing a photo I took on a previous trip; the waves were fierce then as there were even stronger winds that week. August usually is our windy month, but the winds started way earlier.

Rocks as far as the eye can see! The path was easy to walk, except when we had to climb over rocky sections, but I managed and only needed a helping hand now and then. I should have taken a hiking stick; lesson learnt!
These flat rocks are also ideal for fishing.

Rocks come in all shapes and sizes - nature's sculptures.

At long last some beach sand.

We finally found Ladder Rock, which looks rather risky to get to, but fishermen climb on it to get a good cast in!

Large sections of the pathway had concrete blocks with inscriptions, graphics, footprints, and here a very nice imprint of someone's hand.

The walk back to Glenmore went much quicker because I stopped snapping. It took us about two hours with all the stopping, and we were starving by the time we got back.
Breakfast was waiting for us, a good reward after a long walk!

I've missed posting in Wednesday Walk for a long while now, but hope to be back more often as all the niggly health issues have been sorted. Walking surely is rated high as therapy for mind and body!
The gals and I thoroughly enjoyed this walk between Glenmore and Leisure Crest!

Do you know how much I like huge rocks like these ones? A pleasure to see this place from your post. The three other gals would not be able to enjoy seeing all these views if the walk was too quick ;)

I see it was quite sunny. Have you had your little parasol, to protect you from the sun? 😇

You're right @mipiano, the walk was to take in the views, not to exercise;)
I also love rocks, picked up a perfectly round disc-like rock on our walk along the shoreline.
I still want to get paint and try my hand at rock-painting.
Haha, you'll forever see me with a parasol😅 I'll have to buy one for summertime, it's winter so the sun is not as fierce☔️

What a beautiful place for a hike. I would be the gal lagging behind the group. lol 🤪

Haha, you could have been my walking partner😉 It is a beautiful coastline indeed @sunscape!

Nothing beats a good old English breakfast after a nice walk. You did well to snap away and do the 3.5km walk in two hours. It didn't look like the easiest walk with all the rock climbing, and amazing scenery en route, which would have slowed down any walker even if they were not taking photos all the time!!

It was lovely getting back to a cooked breakfast after such a long walk! Fortunately, most of the walk was along the pathway, but this part of the coastline is very rocky. We even had a giant boulder on our unit's patio!
My friends took good care of me, and made sure to give me a hand when the rocks were uneven;)
This was Arthur and my family's favourite hunting ground, they all loved fishing!

Such a cool place! My father would love it since he's a fisherman and so great that it also has a sand beach. The picture with the splash is amazing 👏

It's a fisherman's paradise with rocks on one side and a long sandy beach on the other side of the resort.
The waves were amazing that week!
Thank you for stopping by @wendy23

look ssuch a beautifula rea to walk, I love the waves breaking over the rocks so powerful

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

Hi @tattoodjay, you're right, the waves were mighty powerful that week. The spray at times had what appeared like a rainbow in them.

Thank you for the Wednesday Walk! Walking truly is excellent medicine!

Wow!! That looks like a magnificent location !INDEED !!! I must admit, if I was there with your group, I'd slow them down immensely as well, for taking a LOT of pictures :-D

Learn all about this shit in the toilet paper! 💩

Thank you @borniet, it is a beautiful coastline indeed. You're so right, one cannot enjoy the beauty if you walk at a fast pace! I'll tell them that next time ;)
Thank you for stopping by!

You’re very welcome!!
Yeah, I often try keeping a good pace and photographing in the meantime, but it rarely works well 😂

The rear guard worked hard to provide them with an excellent breakfast. Suitable to restore the wear and tear of the hike on the rocks, which are beautiful together that sea. Excellent @ always with your wonderful friends. Regards.✨🥰

You're right, they indeed spoilt us with a hearty English breakfast. We were starving by the time we got back from our walk.
Always lovely seeing you @mamani 😘

I really liked these girls. I wanted to join you as the fifth girl. Especially the fourth girl seems very fun 🤗So, it gets windy there in August. How nice! Looking at the photos, I almost felt a chill because nothing is moving here with us. All the photos are great. The banana trees also look wonderful. So, you have beans for breakfast. I also love them. It really sounds like a great reward after the walk.

It would have been great to have you as the fifth gal;) We're still in winter here but the weather is forever changing; hot one day followed by cold!
That breakfast was very good indeed, baked beans sometimes is served on toast here.

Oh dear @lizelle, what beautiful photos, how nice the Common Marsh Poker, we don't have them in our country. Definitely the walk along the coast is very necessary for body and soul! Best regards🤗

Hi @mayramalu, thank you for popping in. That walk truly was a balm to the soul!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend <3
