Hi allšŸ‘‹šŸ»

With this post Iā€™m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday. Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community!

Today I want to share with you some highlights of my walk through the countryside on the right and left side of TARIFA in the CƔdiz province, Spain.
I will not be visiting the town itself, but the stunning nature that surrounds Tarifa.

I walked here in September 2017 and the photos are taken by my (late) Canon eos 550D, lens 18-135mm.

Locations Iā€™m visiting and starting my walks:
055bd4d5_e5bd_4877_9c96_2359e034005a.jpeg
Tarifa, the most southern point of Europe

I start with the Observatorio del Estrecho on the right sight of Tarifa. It is a lookout point for birdwatchers.

Then I will go to the left side of Tarifa, the Valdevaqueros dunes and a street /path through a protected military area towards Paloma Baja. Where you find an amazing restaurant hidden away.

Letā€™s start on the right side of Tarifa at the observatory :

From here on the left side, you can see at the top The Maritime Rescue and Safety Society.
More information in Spanish you find Here!

Next: Our view is aimed towards Tarifa port.

You can see a ferry heading towards Morocco has just left.

The observatory is surrounded by ruins.

As you can clearly see in the next photographs.

More information about the observatorio del Estrecho / observatory of the Straight you can find Here in English!

It makes for interesting photographs the ruins and these backgrounds.
I must say, when I was there, not much birds came over. But birdwatching wasnā€™t my aim this dayā€¦ I was just exploring the surroundings and walked šŸ˜Š

The rugged edge of the coastline.

6b6ccb43_6fbc_4128_95d1_5ccb6fcacaf0.jpeg
Across the Mediterranean Sea we see the mountains of Africaā€¦ the sea was all sparkly.

Letā€™s walk further, we see now a cow. Its friends are a bit further away, as you could see in my previous port photo.

2c8835d4_338b_4a10_bf1e_5cef3f77a75a.jpeg
We reached another ruin, next to the observatory.

A little further into the walk, more left overs from buildings. In the distance we see the lighthouse of Tarifa.

I follow a sandy path now and see the first bird in some bushes next to me. It isnā€™t bothered with me walking by as it remains thereā€¦ all calm.

Open fields, all dry after the hot Mediterranean Summer.

26e9fe30_4cbc_4eae_99f3_666565bbf5f1.jpeg

I spot a butterfly on a flower.

6cb258e3_4007_41fb_bb24_4489885238ae.jpeg
I didnā€™t want to go too close as I was sure it would fly away šŸ˜‰

1f1822d3_f78f_4164_8d38_7c4863c2622e.jpeg
Next I spot some white egrets. They are landing in a field close by.
Letā€™s have a look.

3b528ad9_b610_4a83_9352_df7d1fb25580.jpeg
The horse is looking around the corner as it heard me. He or she isnā€™t bothered by the birds.

19eba7f4_d8f2_44dd_9083_9fea53e3dfd8.jpeg
I see more horses, the first photo from this post is also from this spot. The landscape in the back and the fence makes it almost look like forgotten times as in western moviesā€¦

I walk further, letā€™s see what I found now.
6da7e772_4c0e_4b75_be7c_f5302d0b14a7.jpeg
Some snailsā€¦ all up in the top of some plants. Hibernating for better weather to arrive.

cc02434f_4482_465e_b530_135362eaf22f.jpeg
As I look closer, they are everywhere in the area Iā€™m walking in.

a6567f29_5ee6_4db9_8f8d_2d198187acdd.jpeg
It makes for an interesting sight.

30d1cee6_6148_4882_b3b0_dbe33839470f.jpeg
Yes, one more photoā€¦ I just loved the way it looked. Here you can see all up close. šŸ˜

c157f72f_03e7_451f_ade7_68210566abbe.jpeg
I turned around and spotted this bird on my way back, I wanted to go to the next area I wanted to explore.
After a short driveā€¦.

We reach Valdavaqueros dunes. After parking the car next to the road I start walking towards the seaā€¦ along the street. In this photo towards the green trees.
d9043171_0b7e_4ad8_99e0_44e46260d4c8.jpeg
This tree was across where the car was parked. All aloneā€¦ in the dune.

f573f6fe_ff90_479d_8cea_39b24c1c3b8f.jpeg
After I walked a bit, looking back towards inland we see the trees I just passed.

4adb6256_387f_49c6_a347_64e8188cf0d7.jpeg
I walk over the dune and see the beaches of Valdavaqueros.

23f0049c_8c47_4644_b384_ecf2d48edde5.jpeg
Africa still in the distanceā€¦

94f75ec7_c241_4ef8_acb0_d7d9d52606c2.jpeg
Next to us are lower bushes and trees.
I walk back up over the dune and continue my walk along the path.

f5f5f5d4_342b_420f_a04b_06e7132e4bf1.jpeg
The trees are getting denser next to the path.

8af0ff00_0678_4373_9163_bc3c08170e65.jpeg
But at an open space : Another lonely treeā€¦

As I walked further I saw such beautiful undisturbed sand from the dunesā€¦
I took a closer look.
c4044669_f509_4517_9d40_1f9c51f2a238.jpeg

The wind had played with itā€¦

58c6c127_fc37_4be9_afdb_3b8e60a4811f.jpeg

More details: sand grainsā€¦ remember my feather painting?

c0a82ca4_f39c_4aaf_905b_a6bf313f1c3f.jpeg

A little further now I reached the military zoneā€¦ I didnā€™t take photos of this part, but you can walk and drive through it over the path at certain times of the day.

At the end we find Paloma baja and the Restaurante El Mirlo - Tarifa.
Itā€™s a long track to goā€¦ donā€™t give up and just continue. Itā€™s worth it. šŸ˜Ž
Views from there:
1f687b7e_4eec_4eb1_bd53_36c43aef5717.jpeg

It feels like the end of the world as it is far away from main roads, but worth exploring.

And with this last photo , I finish our walk and end my #WednesdayWalk and #Makemesmileā€¦ post.

Wow, cool pictures! šŸ˜Ž

Really a beautiful place, it seems so relaxing!

!PIZZA

Thanks @trippymane šŸ˜Ž itā€™s stunning there and never tooooooo busy. Especially if you visit outside of the summer months. ā˜€ļøšŸ˜Ž

How often do you go? I'd want to be there at least every weekend!

This area is now about 40 minutes drive away. So we are much closer by šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤© Before it was almost 2 hours. So we didnā€™t visit it in a while.
But will go more now again. Planning next weekend to go again.
I did live a few months in Tarifa it self in 2019 and was out and about every free time I had.
It is a special placeā€¦ the energy is more fresher and positive. Also the Atlantic starts there. So one side of Tarifa you have the Mediterranean Sea and the other side the Atlantic Ocean.
I can imagine you would @wrestlingdesires šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Š

I'm glad you are close to it again šŸ™Œ

Thank you, will post about the area when we visit it. šŸ˜‰ā˜€ļø
Have a wonderful Tuesday šŸ‘‹šŸ»

Thank you so much @tattoodjay šŸ˜Š yes I remember. It is beautiful there. I lived some months in Tarifa and almost a year CĆ”diz city myself. So I could explore a lot. I love this side better than the Costa del Sol.
