With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday.
‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!

I will guide you through my photographs and the walk through the Port, as I follow the time stamps of them. So you can walk along with me and look at all the details and surroundings I show you 😎 and tell you about the eyes on the boats… as if you would be right there with me.

Photos are taken with my iPhone on 08 March 2020.

Information about MALTA can be found In the following Website!

It states:
Malta, officially known as the Republic of Malta, 🇲🇹 is an island country in the European Union consisting of an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea, and considered part of Southern Europe. It lies 80 km (50 mi) south of Sicily (Italy), 284 km (176 mi) east of Tunisia, and 333 km (207 mi) north of Libya.
The official languages are Maltese and English.

Malta has been inhabited since approximately 5900 BC.
Its location in the centre of the Mediterranean has historically given it great strategic importance as a naval base, with a succession of powers having contested and ruled the islands, including the Phoenicians and Carthaginians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Normans, Aragonese, Knights of St. John, French, and British, amongst others.
Most of these foreign influences have left some sort of mark on the country's ancient culture.

With a population of about 516,000 (no expats are counted in this number) over an area of 316 km2 (122 sq mi), Malta is the world's tenth-smallest country in area and fourth most densely populated sovereign country.
Its capital is Valletta, which is the smallest national capital in the European Union by area and population.

Information about the fishing village Marsaxlokk can be Found in this website!

It states:
Marsaxlokk is a small, traditional fishing village in the South Eastern Region of Malta. It has a harbour, and is a tourist attraction known for its views, fishermen and history.
As at March 2014, the village had a population of 3,534.
The village is also known for the Marsaxlokk Market, which is mainly a large fish market which takes place along the seafront on Sundays. Inhabited and well-known since antiquity, Marsaxlokk was used as a port by Phoenicians, Carthaginians and also has the remains of a Roman-era harbour.

We went during the large Fish Market on a Sunday.
Let’s start with our walk now 😊 here we goooooo 😁

After parking our car we walked towards the water and port. We see right away some fisherman working… they are repairing their nets.

In the water we find these cute and very colourful little boats. THE MALTESE LUZZU!

Information about these boats you can Find here in this website!
It states about the boats:
A luzzu is a traditional fishing boat from the Maltese islands. This type of boat developed in the early 20th century, although it is very similar to much older traditional Maltese boats such as the ferilla. They are usually painted in bright colours, while the bow has a pair of eyes.

Information about the EYES and a little bit more about the boats you find also Find in this website!

It states:
There is quite a lot of superstition surrounding the luzzu, the most prominent of them all being the painted or engraved pair of eyes on the front of the boat.
These eyes are believed to be a modern survival of an old Phoenician tradition, and are normally referred to as the Eye of Orisis, or the Eye of Horus – the Phoenicians’ god of protection from evil. They are a symbol of protection and good health, and are believed to protect the fishermen from any harm while they are out at sea.

Very interesting indeed 😊😎

As we walk further we see more of the port and all the different boats and where they pull them on land.

We enter the market area. We find first a bakery area with all kind of lovely treats. No I didn’t buy any hahaha 🤣

After that we see loads of fish being sold and prepared/cleaned.

A red light above them… not sure why.

A young man is cleaning some fish, somehow it looks elegant. He has fun and smiles… I just caught that.

The fish in the displays are very fresh and shiny.
Lots of textures and details I see. I love details as you may know by now 😎
You see the freshness in the eyes of the fish.

A musician is playing the hand drum… I love the sounds of it. One day I would like to learn how to play it 😁

At the end of the port we find some more fisherman repairing their nets and getting the boats ready again to go out.

At the end we find a local… observing us taking photographs… what would he think 🤔

At the end of the port we see less boats and the blue waters are greeting us.

Now we walk back towards the restaurants and we had some lovely fresh fish dishes for lunch.

Between the restaurants we find this building with different coloured windows and doors.
And with this last photograph I want to finish my post today and our walk together 😊

The handpan is a cool instrument, we have here a few hivers who can play it :))) Maybe you will learn it too and play it one day for us :)

Hi @mipiano 👋🏻

Thank you so much 😊
Malta has some really beautiful areas. We lived there for 1 year when we were relocated with work. As it is so small, I think we saw it all. Will post more from Malta in due course.

Just arrived in Edinburgh 🥳🚂🚂🚂

Have a wonderful day 👋🏻☀️

I remember you mentioned living for a time in Malta.
It is nice, really loved the colours and ambience

Oh, have a great time in Edinburgh 😇

Malta is great to visit, living is a different story.

Thank you so much @mipiano 😊
What we saw so far is amazing… such old architecture / building and sooooo much history.

It would be great to visit it one day.

but so far, I have other destinations I would like to see, so for now, Malta just from your photos 😅

I understand fully… so many other more beautiful destinations to pick from 😁😎

Good morning @mipiano 👋🏻☀️

Those boats are awesome! Have you ever had one?

No, I have not owned a boat in my life yet @wrestlingdesires
We also lived to short on the island. Just a year… than we moved back again to Spain.

They are amazing, everyone of the boats is different. Never two the same. Loved looking at them and discovering names, colours etc.

You must miss it there :( ? It looks like a nice place!

We don’t miss Malta, living there is different than visiting.
It was quite polluted everywhere because of never stopping building works, not much plants and trees left. It was very overpopulated, crazy rental prices… really absurd prices.

For visiting it is gorgeous though and you can explore a lot. So much to see and history everywhere.

Oh, more of a tourist spot :)

Yep, exactly just for that 😊

These colorful boats are so awesome and the whole town look amazing, also having an interesting history.

Thank you so much @frki for joining my walk. 😊
Yes, they are… Malta is great to visit. It has such an interesting history.
So many cultures merged.
Have a great day 👋🏻☀️

Very nice post with akl the different coloured boats and also the last one with the coloured doors!

Thank you so much @friendlymoose for coming along on our walk. 😊
