A Last Minute Walk

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today I want to share with you a last-minute walk I took on my last day in Madrid, almost two years ago now. It was my first time leaving Venezuela, and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip to Spain, but there was one particular detail, something all my coworkers did, even my wife, that hadn't even crossed my mind: buying souvenirs for my loved ones 😅 I don't know if it was because I was a novice traveler or because I was truly ecstatic with my experiences, but I asked my wife to join me for a bit to take a walk around the city center and see what I could find for my family and friends.

¡Feliz Miércoles para todos!. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una caminata de última hora que viví en mi último día en Madrid, hace casi dos años ya. Era la primera vez que salía de Venezuela, y vaya que me disfruté todo el viaje por España, pero había un detalle en particular, algo que hicieron todos mis compañeros de trabajo, incluso mi esposa, y que a mí ni se me había pasado por la mente, y es comprar algún souvenir para llevar a mi gente querida 😅 no sé si fue por ser novato en viajes o porque de verdad estaba extasiado con mis vivencias, pero le pedí a mi esposa que me acompañara un momento a dar una vuelta por el centro de la ciudad y ver qué podía encontrar para mi familia y amigos.

I bought a lot of things that day, mostly clothes for my mom and brother, and actually, that's when I bought a few things for myself too, because strangely enough, I never intended to spend money on clothes or typical Venezuelan food. In the end, I'd have to go back to my reality in Venezuela, and every penny counts. But in Plaza Mayor, I went into a dreamy place called Madrid Duck Store, a rubber duck shop that stole my heart ❤️. No matter how hard I tried to think of people to buy one of these ducks for, the only person who would really appreciate them would be me 😅. But in Caracas, we live like minimalists. The only unusual things in my really small apartment are some small cacti. But let's not talk about how impressively small my apartment is, but about the promise I made to myself to have my own collection of rubber ducks, dressed in all their different professions, someday, when I have a decent space for them at home.

Compré muchas cosas ese día, generalmente ropa para mi mamá y hermano, y de hecho fue cuando compré algunas cosas para mí también, porque extrañamente nunca tuve la intención de gastar dinero en ropa o comidas típicas, al final tendría que regresar a mi realidad en Venezuela y cada centavo cuenta, pero en la Plaza Mayor entré a un lugar de ensueño llamado Madrid Duck Store, una tienda de patitos de goma que me robó el corazón ❤️ por más que intenté pensar en personas con la excusa de llevarles un personaje de estos, la única persona que realmente los apreciaría sería yo 😅 pero en Caracas vivimos como minimalistas, lo único fuera de lo común en mi realmente pequeño apartamento son unos pequeños cactus, pero no hablemos de lo impresionantemente pequeño que es mi apartamento, sino de la promesa que me hice a mí mismo de tener mi colección de patos de goma, vestidos de todas sus distintas profesiones algún día, cuando tenga un espacio digno para ellos en casa.

At that moment, I thought the hard part wouldn't be buying a large quantity of them, but rather the uncertainty of whether I would ever visit Madrid again. I went for work, but I had a strong feeling I would, and I was right—again for work. But I returned this year, and my little ducks were still there. The thing is, I'm still living in the same tiny place for the time being, so I'll just have to wait. That night we walked from Gran Vía to Plaza Mayor. The route was short, but we knew we'd find what we needed there. It was a short walk, hardly any photos taken; it really was the last few hours of our trip, and yet I always found something beautiful in Spain to connect with, because I don't know if I've said this before, but I love the city of Madrid. 😬

En ese momento pensé que lo difícil no seria comprar una gran cantidad de ellos, sino la duda de si volvería a visitar Madrid algún día, ya que fui por motivos de trabajo, pero tenía una fuerte corazonada de que así sería, y así fue, nuevamente por motivos de trabajo, pero volví este año, y mis patitos seguían ahí. La cuestión es que sigo viviendo en el mismo diminuto lugar por el momento, así que sabré esperar. Esa noche caminamos desde Gran Vía hasta Plaza Mayor, la ruta fue corta, pero sabíamos que ahí encontraríamos lo que necesitábamos. Fue un paseo corto, casi sin fotografías, realmente eran las últimas horas de nuestro viaje, y aún así siempre encontré algo bonito en España con qué conectar, porque o sé si ya lo he dicho antes, pero amo la ciudad de Madrid😬
